N3CR0 Posted April 27, 2017 Share Posted April 27, 2017 Ok, so right now I have the cable go from the box outside go through a hole in the wall to my room and hardwired into my router then ethernet cable to the Netduma. Tomorrow when BT Infinity is setup, this won't be possible due to the phone line being downstairs, nowhere near my room. So how have you guys got your fibre set up? Zennon Posted April 27, 2017 Share Posted April 27, 2017 Master socket > twisted pair RJ11> Modem > RJ45 Ethernet > Netduma > RJ45 Ethernet up through the ceiling, through the floorboards > PC / Console. Drop the Ethernet cable from upstairs as it is much easier that way. I would not personally use power line adaptors and go for a direct cabled route. Drilled 1 hole in the ceiling and another in the floor above. Taped cable to a piece of stiff wire and threaded it through. Tidied it all up with a bit of cable trunking from a hardware store. How do they work? Are they any good? They use the house electrical wiring to send the data down. Better than wifi but not ideal. You will also need to check that the electrical circuits are not on 2 rings, one for upstairs one for down. I used them for a couple of years and the only downside I found was having to keep pairing them about once a month. Ideally you want to go ethernet cable but if that isn't an option then the power line plugs are the next best in my opinion. I ripped the old phone thing off the wall in the kitchen and then covered the hole up just in case the engineer was going to try to use it (may not have been necessary) because it would have taken about 50 metres of ethernet to then get to my gaming room. When the engineer got here he let me choose where I wanted a new socket. He cabled it up the side of the house outside (did a great job compared to the drill-happy chimp from Virgin) and put the socket on the back of a hole left by Virgin Media previously. I got him to install it in the room where my modem + Netduma + Xbox are. Don't blame me if you do this and it goes horribly wrong though. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
