R1 gets unresponsive

Recommended Posts

Playing Black Ops 3 last 2 days I had this 3 times.

The Router interface is nearly no more responding when trying to access it through the laptop.

First I thought it is Congestion Control. So I reset Distribution and set it back to 100% up/down.

Same problem happened again. I cannot even open the settings page to reboot the router.

When it gets unresponsive I notice it first as Ping jumps up and down from very low up to 1000ms.

I am not sure but it gets better as soon as I turn of PS4 (or reboot R1)

This happens since the update on 1.03.5m

Any solution or similar case?

Thanks

Did a factory reset

(took me over an hour to set it up :( again)

Unfortunately same again.

Ping spikes from 0 to 1000ms after ½ hour of BO3.

Router recovers from bad performance when I turn of PS4.

Any other solution, or support via remote access?

Thanks, Wolp

p.s. definitely the same setup as before the firmware update

Sorry, no modem

My setup

VDSL 50/10

FritzBox 7390 router

Only used for DSL dial up (in its own subnet)

R1 directly connected to it as exposed host (some say DMZ), routing all traffic through R1.

R1 manages DHCP of the all devices UPnP deactivated doing all portfowarding manually.

p.s.

the high pings I mentioned are an incorrect result from the R1

My guess is that the R1 suffers in performance and so the ping graph is not displaying correct results.

The ping graph seems also to refreshes slower during this.

Hi,

never used /touched the VPN settings page it just gives me a message

"You are using the old VPN setting. It will still work but we recommend reconnecting to the VPN"

when I open the VPN page.

Turbo and Super Turbo Mode have both always been unticked.

On this settings page only these 3 are ticked

  • Enable multicast snooping.

  • Enable cookies.

  • Enable wifi work-around (even wifi is always turned off on the r1)

On the VPN page just click ok on that message, is a device highlighted? If so un tick it.

Hard turn off PS4 (hold power button until it turns off), reboot router from settings > misc, once on again boot up the PS4, is the interface still barely responding?

Hi Fraser

No device is/was ticked

Did this but had no effect same happens again.
This time it did not even take 1/2 hour of gameplay. Right during the first match.

Ping Spikes are "displayed" do not think they really occur ingame as it plays smooth.

R1 Webinterface gets very slow it takes over 20sec until page responds after clicking Enable/Disable

But it is the whole Webinterface not only certain Buttons / Pages.

As soon as I turn off PS4 router recovers itself after some time and Webinterface is responding fast again.

Just for your interest here is the picture of the ping chart. But this only is the first indication that the R1 interface is suffering in performance (not responding as it should)

Have you checked to see if the R1 is particularly warm/hot? You might need to change the surface it's on or its location to improve airflow, if so. Probably unrelated, but worth verifying before looking too hard into other areas.

Thanks Fraser for your offer, will first follow Apsu's suggestion

@Apsu

That really could be a solution.

I think I have read something similar in the forum…but it was because of turbo mode and temperature (which I do not use)

But if this is the problem, the last firmware update brought up this temperature problem.

As it has always be running fine.

I will test and give Feedback.

Hi Fraser

Took the R1 out of the rack.

Location now cannot be better in regard of temperature.

But, problem is still the same.

Happened on another Dedi yesterday :(

Getting in in contact wit you.
