Beans
Hi all, I received my R1 yesterday and I am already thrilled. I began to work through the optimal settings and upgrading to the latest firmware etc when I decided to fire up the PS4 and give it a whirl just before bed. I just wanted to see what my work so far had done. 3 hours later ( ) I was delighted to see a ping of 50 and less when playing a variety of games. This is something I've never experienced before. For that, I thank you incredible people. Just a quick question though. The layout of my house means I have to use a Belkin N300 wireless booster which sits close to the PS4. The WIFI signal is very weak otherwise. Anyway, when i stopped playing, I decided to download a game from the PSN Store. I therefore went into Congestion Control and allocated all of the bandwidth to the PS4. I then was curious to see what exactly it was doing, so i clicked Network Monitor expecting to see a load of activity in blue (which is the colour for the PS4 under devices). However, all of the activity was in orange which is an "unknown device". I'm certain that this is the wireless booster as when I stopped the download, the activity dropped to zero. Obviously, the PS4 is piggy-backing the booster and this is registering only. My question therefore is, how am I best allocating bandwidth under the spider-gram thingy? Equal split between the PS4 and booster? All booster? Does it matter either way? Thanks again people.
PharmDawgg
Welcome to the forum Beans and congrats on the purchase. What is your bandwidth? Upload/Download? If you are not gaming (downloading from the PS4 store) I would probably just leave it at equal distributions. If you are gaming I would prioritize but the answer to how much is a more difficult question to answer because it all depends on how many other devices are on you network and other aspects. Here is a wiki read that may provide a little background information. http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=cc_settings&s[]=flower One other question. Are you on the latest firmware 1.03.5m? It tells you what firmware at the bottom of the host filtering page. With the newest update the prioritization works on both the upload/download. Before it just worked on the upload. Beans
Hi Buck. Great name! My internet is pitiful- 3 down and 0.5 up. At best. I am stuck with this until fibre broadband is rolled out in my area. Having said that, I'm hoping to make the most of what I have and so far, so good. If anybody has any quick wins for such poor internet then do shout up. I'm reading as much as I can though. Thanks for the advice and the link. I'll take some time to finish setting up and take a read. I just updated the firmware today... To .4! I thought that was the latest, ha. I'll get this sorted now, thanks. PharmDawgg
I would definitely recommend with such a low upload using the prioritization flower and setting your console to 80 to 100% and leaving share excess ticked.

Beans
Thanks Guys! I read a comment about the R1 on another forum, which I thought was a good idea. Don't worry, the comments as a whole were incredibly positive but this comment made me think:- It would be good if the geo-filter and all settings could automatically adjust depending on game being played. So, if somebody was to switch from Destiny to BLOPS3 on a console, the router would somehow know which settings to apply and then apply them. It would cut out the need to log in to the router and do things manually. I fully expect you to tell me that this is simply impossible with current tech.,, maybe in 2025 but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway. Still loving this and have a powerline adaptor arriving tomorrow on some recommendations here.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 3, 2015 Administrators Share Posted December 3, 2015 Great to hear that! We are currently implementing profiles so you could have a Bo3 profile or a Destiny profile that you can switch between. In terms of detecting the game being played, we can do that with PC but I'm not sure/don't think it's possible with console games
Administrators Netduma Iain Posted December 4, 2015 Administrators Share Posted December 4, 2015 Hi Beans, Welcome to the forum and the #DumaArmy. I'm really glad you're enjoying the router. As Fraser mentioned above we are implementing profiles for the next firmware. We will include default profiles for different games
