YOBIGDUSOFLY
Hello all, this morning was an excellent morning for me. Since the .5 update I've seen great improvement whilst playing Black Ops III.In my area it's 100% fiber optic. My ISP's packages offer 100 Mbps up and 100 Mbps down with unlimited bandwidth usage. This sounds great right? Well it is until you experience lag in gaming. You're figuring you're running 100% fiber with great speeds, and you should never have any lag problems. This is not the case at all.I'm just now starting to get comfy with the Duma, so hear me out, because it's been an uphill battle for me since I'm not very good at figuring technical things out.Firstly, I made sure my Bleeding Edge Cloud is ticked.Normally I would leave my C/C sliders at 70% each. However, just for kicks I left my download side at 100%, and moved my upload to 24%. I left the starburst distribution alone. At this time I double checked my download and upload speeds to make sure they were at the correct numbers. I changed my device from Xbox Live PA to Xbox Live. I set my geo-filter to 563 miles right on top of where I live. I made sure Strict was ticked, and started playing Black Ops III expecting to experience lobby booting. Much to my surprise I have not. I have not touched the geo-filter since. Not every single match is the same, but I have seen a lot more consistency between matches. To boot, my other devices connected to the NetDuma are not experiencing any speed issues. This is what's working for me. I'm running the NetDuma solo, and so far I've not had any issues finding matches either.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 24, 2015 Administrators Share Posted November 24, 2015 Glad to hear you've found settings that work for you It is a common misconception that higher speeds mean you won't lag, when in reality gaming uses very little bandwidth
YOBIGDUSOFLY
And I normally don't get much time to hang out in the forum. Sorry for the seriously late reply. I've recently upgraded to 1G for certain reasons between me and my ISP, but that's a different conversation for a different day. Now, it might've been you that told me a long time ago that the Duma would be a bottleneck at that speed. Well, it may be, but it's ran great so far. My question is, will we in the future see full support for 1G for the NetDuma possibly? I know it supports up to 900 with the latest update, but I'm just curious, thanks! TEH BUTCHER
Glad to hear you've found settings that work for you It is a common misconception that higher speeds mean you won't lag, when in reality gaming uses very little bandwidth There are 1000x more mis-conceptions than fact's that are floating around. The most common one I see now is people run a speedtest and then say things like "how can I be lagging my ping is 13 on speedtest" well yea it was 13 to the server that did your speed test but it will be higher/lower depending on how far you are to the host. That's correct sir. When I do a ping test my ping is usually 2 or 3 and I still lag. However, I've been paying a lot of attention to other players in the lobby. Most of the time if someone on my team is three or two barring I get less online performance. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot that's right for me. Plus I've been working on buffer bloat also to see if there's an improvement there. All in all though, my games here lately have been much more consistent. PharmDawgg
This is a great example of high bandwidth not equating to quality ping. Myth: The higher my bandwidth the better my gameplay will be.
