Seattle, Wa. USA

Most CoDs (specifically Black Ops 2 now)

Xbox 360 since January, but I am playing exclusively on the PS3 now to get ready for Black Ops 3

Geo Filter:  Usually around 300 miles, encompassing most of Washington, Oregon, Part of Utah, Part of Idaho and Northern Kalifornia.  I usually play a couple of night's a week, after work, so it's probably from about 1700hrs PST to about 2100hrs PST.

All share excess with my game system of the moment (PS3) is prioritized at 2:1 over the rest of the devices on the unit (currently about 9 devices other than consoles).

Congestion Control (#congcont on Twitter).  All my games play really well between about 87/87 and 65/65 on the sliders.  I honestly play with these settings all the time and I keep a small note pad with player count and what I used for settings, with a column for kills/deaths.

This is what HAS worked for me thus far - YOU WILL HAVE TO EXPERIMENT ON YOUR OWN

  • If the player count is OVER 100,000 players, I shrink my geo filter down a bit and I use the settings of (82/82) to start, if I think things aren't going well, I will move them DOWN to about (65/65).  Somewhere between these two settings seem to have worked on BOTH consoles FOR ME.
  • If the player count is UNDER 100,000 players, I expand my Geo Filter using the "Snap feature" up one or two settings.  This is important to increase the size of the Geo Filter to include more possible players.  With numbers this low, and an expanded Geo Filter, I TRY to always play around (87/87) and no lower than about (77/77).

I always play with 'STRICT' mode ticked (ON).  I never have the Legend, Dormant Hosts or Kilometers checked, I just want to see the active players, the Peer Ping (on 360 - It's BASICALLY useless on PS3 because of the QUALITY of the online experience) and the Auto Ping.

Here are THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS I CAN RECOMMEND for getting your settings dialed in:

  1. If you are NOT tracking your progress, you are hoping for a Golden Unicorn to drop in your lap.  I have never personally seen this beast, so I always keep records when I am playing with variables.  Call of Duty has an almost INSURMOUNTABLE amount of unknown variables.
  2. If you are NOT rating your in game hosts, you are missing out on about 33% of the power of this router.  Everyone wants to hit "1% and submit" on that guy with the hamster wheel and the one bar when he pulls host, but how many hosts do you have marked 95% or higher?

I recently reset my router to the factory settings as I ran into an issue while Beta testing (Nothing to worry about, Iain/Frazer literally fixed my issue with a hot patch the next day), but I lost ALL of my previously rated hosts. :(  My K/D went down over the next few days and nights as I slowly rebuilt my 90% plus rated hosts back up again.  Now that I have that library filled with a lot of great hosts, FOR THE TIMES I AM PLAYING, I am getting great lobbies back to back again.  Without that healthy library, I was quitting a lot of lobbies with really choppy, rubber-band gameplay and just "weird CoD moments" like being killed well behind cover and sometimes in the next game.   :D

Hope that helps.

I Lancashire, NW England,

I Only have been playing call of duty Advanced warfare on Ps4 as this is the only one i currently own!

My internet is 35 Down and 1 Up

As for settings, i have pretty much been using the Same settings forum member Lukasz Gave me here http://forum.netduma.com/topic/8167-30-4-bal-of-duty/?do=findComment&comment=58547

My games were much better after!

One thing i do which i don't know why is to put the 2 sliders down to 9% and 12% in that order for when i log into the multiplayer section and it fetches my profile then when i am ready to search for a game i push the sliders all the way up to 70 or 75% equally and then search games, idk if it makes a difference its just a ritual i seem to have adopted after reading somewhere else about doing it lol

Not every game is amazing but my kdr has increased slightly and i have enjoyed playing since i got the netduma whereas i wouldn't touch AW for the 6/8 mnths previous

Eastern,KY

Advanced Warfare X1

Geofilter disabled

set bandwith 0.50 up 0.50 down

ipv6 disabled

Sliders Both on 100%

Hit and miss, this is what works decent lately,  I have followed optimal settings as suggested its terrible ,usually full clip to kill, enemies kill you in 2 shots. With throttling it helps alot makes the game playable no where near older Call of Dutys with the R1

Black ops 2 x360

Geofilter on

ping assist 35

sliders at 70%

Usually do not have to throttle any

Throttling seemed to help tonight now to get the right number.

The sliders for me are not throttling they are giving you headroom above the % you put in so local congestion stops lag spikes and for me it works so well, its changed my life to be honest lol  no more local congestion :)

Local congestion? You mean in your home?

Yes, others using your net,web browsing, streaming, phone apps updating things that make the net spike on your local network.

Ahh ok, I usually only game when everyone is asleep or not home. Or should I say allowed to play lol

I still game at 70% even when I am the sole user, it just plays better, it maybe a placebo.

As Z has indicated, the ability to dedicate bandwidth to your game helps reduce other traffic from impacting your games.  One of the reasons Iain's Blogpost about Anti-Jitter is going to be SO valuable when the kinks get worked out.

Sometimes when you have instances where the exact same gun kills in a different manner than you are used to, even in the same game, CAN be traced down to little things like someone opening a few windows on another device that is attached to your network.  This introduces Jitter, and CAN effect the digital packets with all your bullets from being sent AND RECEIVED in the proper time frame in which it happens in the game.

The more I learn about the delicate nature of online FPS games, it is fucking amazing to me we made it this far to be honest.  There is literally so much that can go wrong, the fact that we EVER had good games on the regular really does make me wonder.

What would some of our favorite games have played like on launch IF we had the ability to see everything the Duma UI gives us?  Would we have MORE favorite games and times they were awesome?  Or significantly less?

@dillinger I have the ability to unplug everything else in my network and have nothing but game hooked up. Also if you can do a speedtest after throttling you can have an idea what you are throttling to. Not everybody has the same speeds as you! Im simply curious of other peoples settings. Some may help something I did not think of but then that would b me looking for the golden unicorn again sorry

Nah, I am just posting that info for other readers who may stumble onto the thread looking for that silver bullet.  There are a LOT of variables.  While the NetDuma can control some, and make you aware of others, there are things that are completely outside of any units' abilities.

you need 2 settings ,host and non host you will be one of those all the time. i cant find the that "unicorn" its just always around the corner. you could buy 2 NetDumas one for each that way you just flip a switch, boom! your good.

So in saying nah you mean nah seeing other peoples settings wont help? Or did you mean something else?

Sorry.  You have a unique problem and situation, my post was more for other readers as I know several people have been through a lot trying to get you set up and running successfully.

Having the settings that people run will help, no question, but only as a jumping off point.  I don't believe the settings that I run would work if I just bounced on over to the UK and set up Blops 2 in the Netduma offices.  I would have to adjust based on various elements that were in play.

As long a "Player 1" understands the settings from "Duma member here" could be playing same the game as you, but playing it widely different, playing at a different time of day when the player count is different. and be playing with completely different gear than you are using.

Example:  The settings that someone uses to play Groundwar (9v9; more players; thus more active pings to deal with) on a >1ms input monitor may not work well if you are playing FFA on a 42" TV with a noticeable input lag.

My point is:  The individual will need to take these settings and start comparing their games to further fine tune AT YOUR RESIDENCE, at the time of day YOU PLAY and in the games/modes/styles in which you play.

Good article this, promoting lots of discussion and feedback.

For anyone getting black ops 3 next month, what ping assist are you all going to use/recommend as it's a new game?

Dillinger I'm aware you've already helped me alot with this for black ops 2 and wondered whether the same applies?

Hey Cajun - A couple of items to remember.

1) - The Duma wasn't optimized for the Beta.  It was brand new after all.  Iain and Fraser have both commented that this will result in a further optimization effort, but I #TrustinNetduma, so I am going to TRY and be a patient and understanding consumer.  :D

2) - Dedicated Servers.  All but about a very small percentage of my Beta game plays were on dedicated servers.  The only time I saw P2P games were on the early access on Tuesday night prior to Launch Wednesday.

Now my experience with the XBox Live Seattle dedicated server on Thursday and Friday, during the Beta, was unplayable.  Friday I ALMOST deleted the Beta, but they patched twice on Friday, again on Saturday AM, and it was "better".  I caution everyone to avoid the MSFT/XBoxLive Seattle Dedicated server bank if you can.  That server host is just a black hole of my bullets.

That said, I decided to move to the Playstation 4 and their FINALLY Pay-to-Play online MP market, specifically BECAUSE of the quality we Duma Enlightened have seen from Seattle.

I'll be happy to post any settings I find that work for me though, so stay tuned.   I intend to balance both my sliders and my geo filter (if it makes a difference) based purely on player count and how the game play "feels" in relation to hit detection both outbound and inbound as I have been doing this year with both the 360 and PS3 platforms.

Play a couple of games, take some notes, confer with existing thoughts/beliefs/ make a subtle change and repeat the process until you find something that works for you.   ;)

Easy there, Dillinger has posted in this thread to help others it is not directed at you, yes you are the original poster but threads are organic.
