netgear and nighthawk

Recommended Posts

i have to ask this question i went back to my orignal setup modem nighthawk then the netduma.I know the congestion control works better with the r1 as the primary router.Normally i wouldnt see the nighthawk in the netduma congestion control page but now the nighthawk is in the congestion control even tho its the primary router. The question is will all my features still work since the nighthawk somehow got into the netduma congestion control

Good question because my Asus router(access point) shows up in my R1 congestion control as well. The R1 sees the Asus as a device and gives it an IP address as well. I'm interested in the answer as well.

I don't know about Kevo but mine is Modem>R1>Asus(AP). And when I go to devices the R1 shows the router as a wired device with IP address and everything. And all my wireless devices receive addresses from the R1 through the the Asus.

And everything works fine. I just brought it up because Kevo mentioned it and I did not want him to think he was the only one it was happening to.

no modem nighthawk then the netduma but my nighthawk is in the congestion control even tho its the primary

Have you ever connected it to the LAN side? It's probably because at some point you plugged it into a port other than port 1. Can you try going to the device manager and deleting it (you might need to reboot Netduma to do it)?

If you want congestion control features the netduma must come first.

If you have a second router behind the netduma, then every device connected to the second router will appear as one device on the netduma. That device will be the secondary router.

So Congestion control does still work but you can't control individual devices behind the secondary router. Hope that makes sense.

I'm looking to do a setup like this.  Currently just using just the R1 but looking to add my Asus router back in after the R1.

Modem > R1 > Asus.

What do I have to do on the Asus and R1 to make this all work?  Guessing I have to set the Asus to "Access Point" but is there anything on the R1 I have to do?

Thanks in advance for the help.

for some reason it plays better with the netduma as the second router

Other than make sure your plug the ethernet cable from the Lan port of the Asus router into to any port on the R1(except the POE port though) you do not have to do anything special on the R1.

Thanks a lot man. If my understanding is correct I could then turn off my R1 wifi and just use the wifi on my asus.  Also doing this I can take advantage of my 5G on the Asus correct?

Thanks again

the connection

What are we comparing it to?  Now you have it Modem>Nighthawk>R1.  So the connections are better than when you had it Modem>R1>Nighthawk?  Is this for all devices you feel it's better or for your consoles?

I'm going to be adding in a second router tomorrow but as Modem>R1>Asus.  To me it seems that would be the best connection wise for my consoles. If anything was to suffer I would think it would be the devices on the Asus router in AP mode.  I could be totally wrong but seems logical.
