Random disconnects with new firmware

Wow now that I see the configs of others I too use this config.

Modem (mb8611) > R3 > switch > switch/dev

                                          > AX11000 AP

                                          > AX11000 AP

I do use STP js.

I have the same setup as you aside from the Modem.
Modem to (Wired) R3 to (Wired) Switches to (Wired) Asus AX11000 AP to (Wireless) 2nd AP.

The new update brought the things like Amazon Echo Alexa sometimes just listening but not responding.
Random things like Facebook comments not loading on my Phone until I disconnect from WiFi and using 5G to verify and see that it will actually load and then connecting back to WiFi, it also seems to work. Those kinds of issues.

But I've been quietly observing as the frequency of it happening is not as bad either the R2 or the R3 initial release firmware; Can't recall specifically.

Nevertheless, thank you all for speaking out and doing the research. Your post specifically kind of confirmed that it's happening with people close to my setup as well. So wanted to chime in.

Yeah definitely. I'm very glad that we seem to be forming some sort of pattern with this.

Quick question for @Proud R3 Owner: Do you have any devices on the network that do the sleep/wake thing? Are they wired?

I have my modem (MB8611) connected directly to the R3. Port 1 of the R3 goes to port 1 of an 8 port TP-Link unmanaged switch. Ports 3 and 4 of the R3 go directly to the Wan Port of 2 TP-Link Archer AX11000's set to AP mode (nothing plugged into these, they're standalone AP's only). From the 8 port TP-Link switch (which is full, no un-used ports) there are 6 other switches plugged in (3 5-port unmanaged and 3 8-port unmanaged) and one port goes directly to my gaming PC (heheh). Hardwired we have 2 gaming PC's, 3 Roku TV's, an Android TV, 3 PS5's, 1 PS4, 1 Xbox One and 1 Xbox series X. Wireless we have 3 smaller Roku TV's, 3 work laptops, 1 Linux transformer book, 1 Chromebook/Retro gaming (batocera), 4 tablets (3 android and 1 apple iPad Air), 1 Nintendo switch, 4 android phones and a Roomba robot vacuum. I'm sure all the consoles do the sleep/wake thing along with the RokuTV's and the robot vacuum. Not too sure about the tablets, maybe they do something similar as well? Anyway I hope this helps. Happy hunting as usual!! (dev joke)

Thank you! This helps a lot. That now makes three people with multiple switches and at least 1 wired Xbox Series X in the mix as well. This is a good thing.

That's good to know, thanks for chiming in!

Thanks for the extra information, that's really helpful!

Thanks @AsNCo! Two quick questions:

1. Anything on the LAN doing sleep/wake? Like anything poking its head up from time to time to check for updates.

2. Specifically, any Xbox consoles?

2a. If yes, are they wired or wireless?

Just had a disconnect. Went on my laptop with static IP, couldn't load the cgi-bin/logs page or anything else. Unplugged and replugged in the switch connected to the R3 and still could not access. Uptime was probably just around 24 hours on the newest fw.

Thanks for that, I'll pass it on, are you able to try without the switch to see if that stops it?

Unfortunately due to the number of wired devices and their locations, I cannot. I'd suggest making the R4 with a 2.5Gb WAN port and 8 LAN ports. Anyway, I do have the Wi-Fi enabled (on separate ssid) so I can maybe help out with logs. However, I keep getting this spammed in my logs:

daemon.err cli.lua[4129]: wl: wl driver adapter not found

I don't see anything unusual with the CPU or memory usage. Anyway I hope we can get this disconnection issue resolved. Honestly this is the only issue I have with the R3. Yes I do wish it had beefier hardware and a better WAN port/more LAN ports but for what it is, if it could stay working, I wouldn't have any issues at all.

Just rebooted from a cut out as it's Sunday and I can't leave it until tomorrow. Sounds like it started about 45 mins ago. Xbox was in use streaming video and not sleep/waking. I was able to ping the router form the laptop (direct wifi connection) however I was NOT able to ping the router form the Mac that is wired. Also Memory usage seemed normal. See logs and screenshots below.

No worries! Wouldn't really be practical to make hardware of that calibre. No worries about the logs, I don't think much is showing in there currently, the good thing is the pattern has been identified so we can try to reproduce it ourselves now.

Are you using a switch at all?

@Netduma Jack BI also have two:

1. a TP-Link TL-SG1024 dumb switch that connects directly to the R3 and was previously connected to an XR1000 with no issue.

2. That switch drops to a D-Link DGS-2208 dumb switch.

Network looks like this:

Fios ONT -> R3 -> dumb switch -> wired devices on second floor

                        |                |  -> dumb switch on first floor -> wired devices on first floor

                        |
                        |<-> WiFi -> WiFi devices

Been this way for years. Never an issue.

Yes. Same as others in this thread.

Probably not as that’s the Xbox that actually gets used. I may be able to convince for some hours overnight if one of these incidents happens but not for long stretches.

No worries at all then, the team will be trying to reproduce it anyway so we should get some good information from that!

The upside is that so far, unless I missed something, Achilles hasn't had a drop yet. Out of all of us he's the only one that's put the Xbox in full shut down mode.

Just to give an update - since moving both Series X's to the full shutdown mode (including the additional wake settings) I have not had a single disconnect.

Even tonight I was using desktops over the two switches and didn't encounter any issues.

This makes it 4 days or so without issue, prior it was practically daily.

Thanks everyone. I'll stick a second switch in parallel in our test setup now and hopefully it should start occuring.

If that's not possible, would someone be available for a remote session with a developer when it next occurs for them? If you dont immediately need internet back of course. Thanks!

@Netduma Jack BCurrently having an outage. Can leave it for probably a couple of hours and then I'll have to reboot.

I don't think the team will be able to do it now as it's after office hours so you can go ahead and reboot

I checked the time difference and figured that was the case but wanted to leave it for a little bit anyway just in case someone was able to take a look.

Anyway, here’s a screenshot of what the network looks like while down from the iPad app. No lan whatsoever.
