DumaOS Version   3.3.157 Issues - latency Spikes/Beta Firmware

Recommended Posts

@Netduma Fraser @mannrs

After a few days of testing, here is some GOOD & BAD results that I have discovered so far. I will post more results if required.

GOOD

  • MW3 Lag spikes/Stutters seems to be much much better. (I am now enjoying playing again)
  • Congestion control when set to Auto-Enable seems to be functioning as expected.
  • WIFI Booster seems more stable, plus now devices connected to booster show up correctly in Network MapNewboosterfunction.thumb.jpg.0f9543618889a1ed3f84392b5f22aa00.jpg

BAD

  • There is still no option to alter Upload bandwidth allocation for application /devices.
  • When assigning a Static Lease under Telstra modem settings in local network - All Wi-Fi devices drop out, every single time you apply a Static IP to a device.
  • Scheduled Test still have the following issues.

Great to hear it has improved and thank you for the other points, I have passed them onto the team - when you apply the static IPs do the devices reconnect themselves quickly?

Yes, all devices connect back fairly quickly.

  • New issue. This issue with parental controls posted here is still not working with the Beta Firmware. I tested it today; sites are not being blocked even though its enabled.

  • Mr MuRFiE changed the title to DumaOS Version   3.3.157 Issues - latency Spikes/Beta Firmware
  • 1 year later...

I've read this thread with interest.

I have tried 2 Gen 3 Telstra modems on my farm property, which is stuck on old DSL with a connection speed of about 7 mbps down, 1 mbps up.  One is brand new as at 2025.

Funnily enough, the slow connection is surprisingly useable when I'm on a Telstra Gen 2 (DJA0231) because the latency is quick.  I can play WoW, Starcraft etc.  Even Netflix is OK!  There's no internet optimiser from Telstra for its DSL services, so it's just plain vanilla internet.

On the Gen 3 I get HUGE lag spikes at irregular intervals,  Gaming pings will go from 220 ms (normal in Australia to US servers) way up to 3000+ ms - sometimes for 20 seconds, often enough to disconnect.  There's no line dropout, no loss of sync, nothing I can see in the logs.

So - to the Netduma folk watching - I don't know exactly what you think you fixed in 2024, but in 2025 there's still a major screw loose.  A shame, too, because the Gen 3 is a nice bit of hardware that I'd like to upgrade to.

Hey @DanielH, is Internet Optimiser running when your connected with the Gen3?

To clarify, Netduma's software is only running on our Smart Modem's when Internet Optimiser is able to be activated.

Telstra only offers Internet Optimiser with cable and fibre connections - not with older ADSL, satellite and wireless.  So no, definitely not happening on my connection.

Can you un-confuse me here - isn't the whole operating system of the Gen 3 (and Gen 2) based on Duma OS?

Hey @DanielH, no we load the Duma features on top of our existing device/modem firmware operating system.  So in your case it isn't related Netduma with the Gen 2 to Gen 3 performance difference.

Is your gaming PC or Console connected via WiFi or Wired?  If WiFi, I can only think that the Gen3 is steering towards a different radio band/channel thats not as ideal as what the Gen2 is.  Our team can have a look at that for you, so if it is WiFi, send a DM of your serial number and I'll try to find someone to check it out if you like.

However if its wired LAN, really not sure what the cause could be.

Hi Mannrs.  It's a wifi connection, although I tie down the Gen 3 to my choice of channels and turn off band steering (as I'd do with any modem or router).  It's in a rural setting with no competing wifi networks, so channel conflict isn't possible either.

Not to worry, I simply won't use it.
