What I don’t get is why the update doesn’t go live for everyone and you have to download it yourself

Usually the answer would be staged rollout, say for example a firmware was made and pushed to all routers but it broke every single one beyond repair that is a company breaking problem. You roll it out in stages instead, 5% does anyone have any router breaking issues? No? Increase the percentage of customers it is available to, rinse and repeat until everyone has it.

In this case it was more due to the holidays, and firmware was being made literally on the teams last day working so better to be safe than sorry and provide firmware manually for the very latest.

If you're upgrading through the interface without a manual file reboot then try and it should work
