Sky hub and R3

Please forgive my noob question. I’ve ordered the R3 and have Sky fibre 500mb broadband supplying the house via WiFi and my PC via Ethernet through the sky hub. Will the R3 replace the Sky hub or do I connect the R3 via Ethernet to the Sky hub?

If your sky hub is your modem then yea you will have to put it in modem mode then connect the R3 to it

A quick google tells me that the sky hub does not have a modem mode and will always route traffic. Does this mean the R3 won’t work with sky hub?

Hi Tommy,

It will definitely work, we just need to figure out why it's not automatically connecting (our CEO is with Sky broadband so I'm confident we can figure out what is happening!).

Could you turn the power off on your sky hub and your R3. Turn on the Sky Hub and wait for it to be fully powered up, then turn on the R3.

Could you then go on the R3 user interface (type dumaos/ into your browser address bar) and then go to >Settings >Wan - could you then take a screenshot of that page and share it here (or type out the numbers). No need to share your Public IP.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for the reply. I sorry I may not have explained myself correctly. I'm currently waiting for the R3 and have not yet received it. I'm with Sky on a fiber connection and just wanted to know what I need to do when the R3 arrives. Do I replace the Sky Hub with the R3 or do I attach the R3 to the Sky Hub? I'm guessing by your reply I plug the R3 into the Sky Hub (via ethernet?) and it should just work from there? Is there anything else I need to do in regards to adjusting settings or changing any settings on the Sky Hub do you know?

Many thanks

Yes you should connect the R3 to the Sky Hub and then go through the Setup Wizard on the R3. Then on the R3 go to Settings > WAN and copy the WAN IP, then go on the Sky Hub interface and paste that into the DMZ option. Would also be best to disable the WiFi on the Sky Hub so all devices connect to the R3.

  • 2 months later...

If your setup is Skyhub(DHCP)>R3(DHCP)> only iPv4 will be available.
Sorry to say if you want iPv6 you will have:

1. Remove the R3

2. Skyhub -enable DMZ/Bridge mode which I don’t think either is possible

Honestly I think you are stuck with iPv4 only which isn’t a total loss.
