Your "we don't give any ETA" has no more meaning, it's a cliche .

Imagine, that you bought a car. Soon after, you discover there is a problem with it.

The car manufacturer acknowledges the issue and for over 2 years says that we don't give ETA for the incoming fix.

All the car model owners would fire class action lawsuit against company like that.

You can simply compare it to a cellphone. Dont think anyone wld buy another phone from that company.

@Netduma Fraser -  We appreciate you keeping up on this and hope you will understand our frustration.

I will be the first to admit that at times, I have not been very understanding and/or happy with the level of support offered for such an expensive product. However, I imagine
the frustrations are let out here simply because it does not fall on deaf ears. I have been girl doging about this router for what seems like years now and have learned a couple things along the way. I just call 'um like I see 'um and the way I see it is:

- The complaints for the Netgear Router w/ DumaOS are far greater than the others.
- The support you find here cannot be found with Netgear themselves at any price.
- It is Netgear, NOT NetDuma who must approve the firmware for testing first.
- If it was left up to Netgear alone, V1 of this router would have been abandoned a long time ago.
- I can only imagine the people the people at NetDuma are about as sick of Netgear as they are of us screaming about it.
- DumaOS 4 will NOT be coming to the XR1000 for reasons above.

With that said, the people here are probably the only hope to receive one last firmware update for V1 of this router. They won't offer an ETA because it will come back to bite them in the ass even for problems beyond their control. Continue posting to show there is still reason/need to support this router with the understanding that it's Netgear that decides if and when a firmware will be released.

Thanks for all of your effort NetDuma, we are all looking forward to this release.

(As for the car manufacturer comment above... not sure when you bought your last car but someone has to actually die before they even acknowledge a problem with a new car, let alone fix it)

It is unlikely the beta version we post will be made an official public version, at least not for awhile. Even though it may be the last firmware with feature additions we do still intend on providing bug fixes where possible after that. I do understand peoples frustration and I do what I can to push for updates but I'm limited on what I can do in that regard unfortunately.

Will DumaOS 4 be coming to the Netduma R2 or NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers (XR500/XR700/XR1000/XR450/XR300)?

We fully intend to get DumaOS 4 on the Netduma R2 - we’re expecting this to be a straightforward task so the wait won’t be long. If you own an R2 and would like to be notified when DumaOS 4 is available to you, please enter your email here.

However, for Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers, we have some more unfortunate news: as things stand, DumaOS 4 will not be coming to these units. As you can probably tell, it has been a challenge getting these models onto DumaOS 3.3, for reasons outside of our control. We have been able to get the XR500, XR450 and XR700 onto 3.3 via  open beta firmwares. And this week we received an XR1000 firmware from NETGEAR (running DumaOS 3.3) which is going through our internal testing now.

So as things stand right now, the only way to get your hands on DumaOS 4 currently is to purchase a Netduma R3.

I wish it would already come out been waiting awhile I like dumaos alot I use it for mainly cod since fortnite is a pain to use it on other then that I like how I play cod with these routers just hoping to test 3.3 on xr1000 and eventually try the r3 again but sadly I'm using my asus while I wait due to protection on it and security that the xr1000 and r3 don't have

OK hold up. Let me see if I understand, based on what I've read so far. I want to clarify that I udnerstand that the router is Netgears, but the software is yours... which is what the problem is.

I visited this forum to go over news on the next XR1000 update, as when I bought it mid-last year, I was under the impression that HybridVPN was coming in that next update. I need that feature. Hasn't been a problem, as I figured I could just connect those devices through VPN using my old, el-cheapo ASUS router that DOES have this capability "temporarily". As my network setup was working that way, never gave it much thought afterwards.

But now, the ASUS router is having problems. So figured I'd just update the XR1000 now and be done with it. "No updates available".
I come here, to see we're almost a YEAR after that, and we're still waiting for a !BETA! firmware to become available, that was offered 4 MONTHS ago, and it's STILL not available? And that additionally, it's communicated that after this update (whenever and IF it comes), the XR1000 will no longer be suported?

So apparently, I need to BUY another secondary router that offers VPN capability, because my main router after on eyear, still can't do it. Lucky enough, I can get a used one off ebay for like $25. Imagine that... spending $25 for a router with more, basic routing capaiblities than my $200 router...

This is no longer a joke, this is a scam. As a customer, I should not care whether its Netduma or Netgear at fault... all I should care about is that this $200 router was released, and simply not receiving any further support. You cannot honestly tell me that Netgear is 4 months unresponsive on testing a beta build, and that you do not have a direct contact, or an escalation point within Netgear.

I might as well just sell this thing and along those $25 I would need to spend regardless, buy an equivalent router that is actually supported.

It is a scam. There is no 3.3 beta for XR1000 being developed. It is all lies to keep customers calm.

All we can do is to file a complaint to Better Business Bureau - please do so!

Can you explain? I am not sure I understand why this is a scam. Was there an explicit promise made somewhere for Netduma 3.3? I just want to try it out because its a higher number.

Yes there was a promise from Netduma

2 years ago Netduma luke posted this and marked as sticky. They deleted it later realizing there is not much to back it up.

"Hi everyone,

This is an update for you guys on where we are with DumaOS and specifically, the XR/NPG routers which is why we have posted it in this subforum.
First of all, here’s the current status for each XR router, including links to where you can get the latest firmware for those of you who don’t already have it installed:

Now to address the problem: the speed at which XR users have been getting new firmwares. We realise it has been far too slow.
Here’s how the firmware building process typically works:

  • Every few months a new DumaOS firmware is completed
  • This first must pass our internal testing
  • Then it moves over to NETGEAR where it must pass their testing, including all the non-DumaOS side of the firmware
  • Then it goes into closed beta testing
  • Eventually, if all has gone well, it will be released

The big problem we have is that if there is an issue at any point, the entire process needs to start again. Considering all the different XR routers DumaOS is on combined with the fact all of them have very large user bases (meaning disaster if a serious bug gets through) and you begin to see the problem.

So, what can we do about this? We asked ourselves the same question at the beginning of the year and we have been working on a solution ever since. We’ll be putting a blog and video together to explain in more detail what we have done, but here is a summary.

We have created a brand new ‘build system’ which will drastically speed up how quickly we can build and test firmware.

One part of this system involved writing hundreds and hundreds of automatic tests which allow a bunch of computers to test DumaOS without any human involvement.

Another part is to allow us to trigger new internal firmware builds every night. The purpose of this is to gather all the latest changes our developers have made during the day, build a new firmware and then kick off the automated tests. This means we can catch bugs before human testers ever get their hands on the firmware.
The end result of all of this is we can make stable and well tested DumaOS much, much faster than ever before.

We’ve been working on this build system for some time and last week, we released a new R2 firmware. It was our very first full firmware built using the new build system, so it’s a bit of a landmark moment for us.

Our plan is to now use this new system for all future DumaOS 3.0 firmwares, including XR routers, Telstra Game Optimiser, the R1 etc. It’ll take us a bit of time to tweak it to work with each router, but once done it will become very easy for us to prepare rock-solid firmwares to send to NETGEAR for their testing before then releasing them to you guys.

There’s still one sticking point left: the XR300 community. We really do know how far behind you are, and it sucks. All I can say is we’ll do everything in our power to try and bring you up to the latest version using this new build system - I can’t promise it will work, but we’ll do our very best.

The last thing to say is we realise we’ve been pretty quiet over the past few months in terms of communication. Behind the scenes, we’ve never been busier.

We’ve got some massive features coming out in 2022. Honestly, it’s going to be the biggest leap forward we’ve ever made in our technology and is the culmination of several years of R&D. We’ve also doubled the size of our team over the past 18 months. We know it’s been a long wait, but the payoff will be worth it.

Thank you for all the patience on this. We know we’ve got a brilliant user community, we feel very blessed and fortunate to have you. We think you’ll love what’s coming out next and we’ll begin to share more details with you on what we have been up to, so stay tuned.

It's not a scam, just delayed as can happen with development and working with another company

The netduma luke’s post appeared on December 2021. That is almost 3 years ago. Since then, you yourself, number of times have been telling customers that xr1000 firmware is coming: “soon” , “next month “ , “next year “ and my favourite “ netduma doesn’t give EToA”.

There is a time limit when you can stop call it a delay and start to call it a scam.
