Terrible Bufferbloat, no matter what I try.. (XR450)

Honestly it's just usually me using it. A family member sometimes using tablet for a basic casino app or something, but nothing much other than me.

Okay well that coupled with the fact that it happens when using your modem says to me that it's not an issue on your side at all, it will be your line and so moving provider would be the best option. Reason being you on you're own playing a game will come no where near saturating your line, even with QoS disabled so bufferbloat won't be occurring and therefore no reason on your side for such a high ping.

Not really unfortunately because if it's happening, on the modem and without other devices being used then it's not bufferbloat, it's just line instability/high ping - you could try using a VPN, this may provide better routing which *could* improve your ping

Every bit of info I ever did on research stated it was bufferbloat. Hell, refer to my previous screenshots in this exact thread about switching around the settings on the router settings, etc, which affected not only speeds but the bufferbloat ratings, etc. It's all there.

I don't know. I feel the cable line is only going to be so good, even 'gig' speed, however, I also feel it's probably something I can 'help' a bit, at least, if I had the right know how or windows/router/etc settings.

This is the definition from the waveform site prior to doing the test:

"Bufferbloat is a software issue with networking equipment that causes spikes in your Internet connection’s latency when a device on the network uploads or downloads files."

So by that very definition, if you're connected to your modem with basically no other devices being used at the time, there are no downloads or uploads going on to cause bufferbloat. So it cannot be bufferbloat.

There are very few situations that could be causing it with that in mind but none of which we can help with - if it's happening direct from the modem the issue is above what the router can control:

  1. Faulty modem
  2. Incorrect results on the test - You could run PingPlotter to check the stability of your line - if you're experiencing this in game though then it's unlikely, unless the game is reporting incorrectly, however the changes of them both reporting incorrectly at the same time is low.
  3. ISP Congestion - Bufferbloat essentially caused by too many people in your area using the same provider and overloading the exchange - if this is the case then during peak times/days it would be particularly bad, with it being much better during off peak times - nothing you can really do about this
  4. Bad routing from the ISP
