@mr_kfed thanks for the kind words about me! I totally appreciate it's a frustrating issue, I wish I could say it was an issue on our side that we could have fixed but I can't unfortunately. If it's continuing after raising the bottom of the range then I would suggest giving every single device connected to the router a static/reserved IP in DHCP settings. Once you've done that then disable the DHCP server, reboot the router from the interface, wait 4 minutes then confirm you still have access to the interface and internet. Then in theory, the DHCP issue should not longer pose a problem as it's disabled and devices will continue to function with their permanent IP address.

They're well deserved!

So, I wasn't able to apply the fix you suggested for more than a day because I have devices that come and go as well as guests staying throughout the year who will want access to my internet. That said, my internet still went down twice during that time. There's nothing in the logs besides 4-5 addresses that update their leases faster and faster, up to every second (or less), then the crash occurs. I have a feeling it's due to features like iPhones Private Wi-Fi Address. The affected IP addresses accumulate 7-50 mac addresses in the device manager fairly rapidly. To my understanding it should be 1 MAC per AP but I'm not an expert or up-to-date with iPhone technologies any longer.

Another [far fetched] theory is that a user or their ISP has mistakenly turned back on the router functionality for their modem and a double NAT is somehow causing the described issue through some race condition or bug.

In the end I broke down and purchased another router. An interesting note is that even though I emulated my XR500s settings, I can see each per device data via my piHole now whereas previously I'd only see my XR500s router's 192.168.1.1. Traffic data type (e.g. txt, https, ns) is being reported more accurately as well. Just an interesting observation. That said, my XR500 did pick WIFI auto settings better than my current solution.

Farwell for now Fraser! All the best.

Ah yes the private address on iOS and other devices can pose a problem there, they will just ignore any reservations unless that is disabled. You would see a double NAT on your console if that was the case, unlikely but a possibility for sure.

This is one of the most frustrating experiences of a router. It's so flip flop when it's working and when it's not.

XR500 V2.3.2.134-dumaos33-rc14 here. It's just constant DHCP renewals, consistent drop outs, and a general mess. Even versioning can't be consistent.

I don't use QoS or AdBlock. As in, it's not configured

[DumaOS] recovering state com.netdumasoftware.dpiclass, Friday, May 02, 2025 07:04:26

Under QoS, I have Goodput only checked and have congestion control set to Never. Keeping it on reduces my speeds by a significant amount.

Should I just roll back to the official version and call it a month before I pull my hair out and swap routers for good?

Edit: Yes, I've set the DHCP reservation table for my PC and my reserved addresses start at .50. I start from .2 and go up to around 15 before I'm annoyed. Individually doing them all is ridiculous. It's actually sad to think about all the users and customers who have significant connection issues because they just happen to own this router and don't know how to troubleshoot it. I don't think my smart bulb needs a reserved IP. 😛

It is something we raised to NG awhile ago and not something we can directly fix unfortunately. Once you've done the reserved IPs you won't need to do it again so it'll be a one and done scenario.

If you're not using QoS then you can disable it fully in the Congestion Control menu.

I jinxed it... I do get random disconnects, only when I use wired, especially on my PS5, it happened when my router renewed the lease time... Ng are soo lazy to fix the issue... I'm getting tired of this...

It was just a security update so would be surprised if it did. The only workaround I'm aware of is applying static/reserved IPs to devices outside the DHCP range and if it continues then disabling DHCP fully so only devices given a reserved IP can connect
