Lag Spikes when playing Call of duty

Hi all, I seem to be getting nasty lag spikes every couple of days after resetting my router. Once I reset it from scratch it’s fine for a couple of days and then it starts happening again. Any suggestions?

Hi Fraser,

In game and no changes at all. I’ve tried it with QoS off and on also and the same happens. It seems to happen 2 or 3 days after I set it up and it’s pretty consistent which is strange.

Are you seeing the lag spikes on the Geo-Filter or on the game itself? Are there any settings you change prior to the degraded performance?

Hi mate,

Tried again this morning and still the same. QoS has been put down to 70% for both and still getting spikes.

As you can see here, pings under load to around 100 which isnt great.

If the spikes are just shown on the game and not in the Geo-Filter that generally means the game server is the cause and forcing different servers may resolve the issue. We are working on improving the benchmark results but try with a high value for Congestion Control, say 95% then do a test, decrease by 10%, test, decrease by 10% etc, until you get to a value that is pretty good and then try 5% either side of that value to see if it can be improved. It's important to note that Download & Upload on Congestion Control don't have to be the same value and that you may have a better experience with differing values. If the results aren't changing much then try the game instead see if you spike then reduce etc.

Hi Fraser,

I wasn’t even in a game when I had the spike in the picture. But I’ll try the steps you have mentioned and try again.
I don’t think it’s the game as the people I play with don’t seem to have any issues just myself. I’ll try again and let you know though :)

Best advice just manually traffic prioritize the device and your download seems to be high on the buffer bloat I would try to minimize that as much as it seems your upload is fine realistically try getting 10ms

Under load - Buffer Bloat

Thanks for the suggestion, could you tell me how to do that in dummy terms? Haha!

So instead of using DumaOS Classified Games add your device with the Games Console service or by selecting the ports the game uses

Tried it all mate, still awful. The ‘ping’ int he auto ping section of the geo has constant spikes to like 300-700. Just going to go back to the Sky router I think. Maybe look at a R2 or something.

If you're seeing the spikes on the Geo-Filter now then that's definitely on your side, did you experiment with the percentages to find which worked best? Are ALL devices connected to the XR?

Yeah I’ve gone as low as 40%, seemed better at around 80% so I’ve kept it at that for the time being.
No, at the moment the XR only does my laptop and the PS5. But this happens even worse when I use the XR for everything on its own.

Infinity Ward already admitted that they have servers problems and they're looking into it.

Seems to me this is ISP related issue I would test your modem directly using ping plotter to find out

Plausible that it could be cod servers I don't play cod anymore do to rig SBMM I am good so I am punished and I ain't bashing my head on the wall being 3kd player over the years it just tiresome a retired vet especially when I am playing against PC RUINING CROSS PLAY WITH CHEATS ETC 24/7

Sounds like malware to me, I'd throughly scan your laptop or disconnect it from the network then attempt the tests.

Don’t think it’s Malware, I’ve done it on 3 separate laptops and results are the same unfortunately. Thanks though

Did you do this:

When you add all the devices you'll need to re-set QoS to find what works best in that scenario and once you do that it should perform a lot better as it can control the whole network

I tried it with literally nothing else turned on/connected only laptop and PS5 and was still happening. Just going to live with it for now until I can find a R2 on sale somewhere I think.

It's better to do it with all your devices connected and using the internet as they normally would so that QoS can be fine tuned to help out when you need it the most.

Is it the 500 you're on? If so you could always try the beta

i recommend changing your dns. a bad dns can cause drop outs, disconnections, heavy lag spikes as well! some resolvers go bad in some locations! if thats not the case. hard reset your modem. re implement your bandwidth speeds
