Quick question on ping to servers for COD

Hey Netduma fam, got a quick question for everyone. So the ping that the geo filter says I'm on 30ms and then when you look at in game ping it's like 40ms + higher. Why is that? I get into some lobbies and it feels like dudes are a second ahead of me. I know a lot vids are popping up now saying this game is rigged and I have no doubt this is the case. I just want to further understand it. Thanks!

-Also my connection benchmark test I get an A+

To quote myself on this:

  1. Geo-Filter: Shows your ping direct to the server, anything on your side of the server essentially, including the server location, ISP routing, modem, router, QoS settings etc can affect this.
  2. In Game: Shows your ping direct to the server + processing delay - All games have processing delay but not all choose to include it in their ping calculation, CoD does. I would expect the in game ping to be 20-30ms higher than the Geo-Filter ping maximum.

If the in game ping is 30+ ms higher than the Geo-Filter then it indicates the server is under heavy load (too many players online on the server bank), when this happens it's a good idea to try and force a different server. Even if the ping on (1) is higher, if (2) is lower overall than the previous server then you will have more stability and a better experience.

Hopefully that clears it up for you!

Yeah definitely for warzone it does. The lowest I've had was like 25ms then on in game ping it would read high 50's but have spikes up to like 77ms. All the other servers other than the one here (which is Illinios) I'm close to 50ms and then in game says I'm at high 90's and sometimes will spike to over 100. So I really don't have a choice. I feel like the servers have gotten worse over the years. When they first came out with dedi's it was during WW2. I remember cause I dropped my first nuke then. These last few cods I can't even play multiplayer anymore as I just get destroyed. I used to be decent at mp with like a 1.6-1.7 kd and warzone I've never been any good cause I'm very hindered by connection I feel. It is what it is I guess. Thanks for your input Fraser appreciate ya!

It's definitely worth shopping around for servers, not all of them will be under heavy load and like I mentioned, some with a higher ping on the Geo-Filter that you wouldn't think would play well might be better if the in game ping isn't that much higher. Playing outside peak times will be better as well although I appreciate it's not always possible. You're very welcome!

I agree with Fraser on this as well.. Try forcing a bit farther server.. If your still with Spectrum id try forcing a different server.. One thing I also noticed is that Spectrum for some odd reason doesnt perform well in Chicago servers.. Or basically in that data center.. Might be something up with there own network as well.. Which is a shame.. Now when I try CentuuryLink internet on old crusty dsl with very low bandwidth available the game performs well in Chicago using that ISP..  Im just not a big Spectrum fan!

Btw go VIKINGS!!!!!

NFL record breaker!

Lol, yeah I was watchin the game and was like wth, smh. Put the game on mute mid 2nd quarter and we end up pulling off the unthinkable. What a crazy year! Yeah I'm still with spectrum. There is nothing better where I live. I want fiber but where I live it isn't in my area. The servers are different for different times of the day I will agree with that. However Warzone is completely different since they don't use all of the ones mp does. I'll keep investigating thanks for chiming in. Hope all is well!

Ha Ha yeah im not sure how much more my heart can take from a team like the Vikings.. lol..  We are finally doing a build out here for fiber.. Long over due. But very welcomed to see it.. Hopefully in time you will get fiber as well.. Go to your Township or City and ask them about fiber.. Mn has a fiber broadband bill that helps fund the build out.. You might be surprised...   Have a good Happy Holidays!
