deconnection and unnamed device on my netduma

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Since July the 14th, I had a weird experience.

All of my d link poweline adapter stopped working (it started to blink on red )

(green > up to 50 mbps, orange > 10 mbps, red > less than 5 mbps)

And i've got 4 unnamed devices that started to appear on my netduma interface ...

Could it be that those devices are my powerline adapters ? (if yes then why they never showed up before ? and now they have a ip adresse attached on them ...)

post-1863-0-39193400-1437197225_thumb.jpg

After unpluging and reseting the devices it finally came back online but their stuck on orange qualty for the signal.

What could that be ?

I precise that my internet is working fine. I just don't undersand why all of my powerline adapter are falling one after the other (since they were working great until now).

PS : the powerline adapters are feed by the netduma r1 (like everything else in my house).

I'm not sure if all power line adapters have IP address's but mine do ant they show up on the device manager. You could check this by clicking 'edit' in the device manager and seeing if the MAC address's match up to the ones on the power line adapters.

Have you tried turning them all of then setting them back up again? This might get the signal back up.

I can see the mac adress on the net duma interface, but how can I know which one belong to each adapters ?

Yes i've resetting my adapters and it seems working now.

But I know that it might start going offline everyday, I think it's because something is creating an interference. but I don't know what exactly.

Thanks again.

I had a very similar problem just yesterday and had rebuild my entire home network. I am sure you are doing but make sure that the powerline plugs are plugged into a wall socket and not an extension lead/cable.

Crossy, thank you for answering the question of powerline plugs showing up as unknown devices. That explains the 3 on my system that I have been scratching my head over for months lol.

I am on day 2 now and all still seems to be working ok.

It depends how old they are really, I used to work as an audio visual technician and a roady for about 5 years and a lot of modern electronic devices do stop working after around 18 months to 3 years. They develop dry joints etc and work internittently.

A bit like like modern cars they break after a shorter time than their earlier models.

I know of Betamax video recorders that are still working.

I would keep using them and see if everything keeps working. How old are they? up to 50 doesn't sound that fast to be honest.

Just keep an eye on them, I know when I upgraded to the ones that you have to pair my none pairing ones didnt work on the same network so I bought 2  double ethernet plug ones and a gigabit switch.

I have one by the router where the line comes into the house and the other in the games room/office where one ethernet cable goes directly to the PS4, and the other goes to the switch which feeds the PC, TV, and PS3

I would keep an eye on it and if it works only upgrade when you have disposable funds.

The labels on the powerline adapters ahould have the MAC address so you can match that to what it says on the Device manager :)

Couldn't those be other devices also connected to the Netduma?

No because each one of them have their name on it.  Those are just appearing like that. and they just keep mutlplying.

Can't you check which devices they are by matching the MAC Addresses to the other devices in your house? Because for them to appear, they have to be connected to the Netduma :)

Ok I was wrong I can't see their mac adresses on the netduma.

They have one on the sticker on the powerline.

but where in my computer can I see their mac adresse ?

If you click 'edit' on the device manager you can see them :)

And by the way, I have a weird PC46 appearing on my modem interface (192.168.1.1)

Oh, thats my fault, I've told you to go to the wrong place :D Go to Settings >> DHCP Lease and the MAC Addresses are in there :)

Ok now I find mac adresses that doesn't fit anywhere.

what could that possibly be ?

It could be anything that is connected to your Network. You could block it in the device manager and wait for someone to say their internet isn't woking or wait for one of your devices to stop working. Alternatively you could search the MAC Address here and see if it tells you which manufacture makes the device. This might help you identify the device.

cool thanks bro.

And by the way, their are not consuming any bandwitch in the "network monitoring" is it possible those are just my powerline re-appearing on other name each time they have a micro-deconnection ?

I think they would appear under the same name as their MAC Address won't have changed :)

After checking those mac adresses they are made by Apple California, samsung and sagemcom.

I only have 1 macbook pro so I don't know how it allow to have a new mac adress each time. (maybe because mine run on windows 8 no ?)

The samsung might be my smatphone (galaxy s3)

And the sagemcom is my modem router (from my ISP) (it's appearing twice)

Thank again, I hope everything continue to works, I still had a deconnexion yesterday, had to unplug my powerline and getting them plug on to restart the whole thing.

You could delete the unnamed devices that don't have an IP and then they may get redetected and may give you a better idea as to what they are. Glad to hear it seems to be working now though :)
