1gbit Speed Issue

I'm using Virgin UK 1GBit, I hit around 950Mbit using the Hub4 and when in modem mode I barely get 800mbit.

Using firmware 3.0.394.

Wired Connection, no wifi being used during the tests.

I've Factory Reset and used different cables.

I've used QoS on and off, when on i tried 1000 down and 950 down.

Geo-Filter Off, Traffic Controller Off, AdBlocker Off.

Network Settings, IPv6, Port Scan and Syn Flood protection all off

DNS servers, ISP and Google.

DMZ On and Off, when on i used my computers IP.

I'd suggest taking the VM Hub out of modem mode and instead disable it's Wi-Fi.

From there, please take the WAN IP of the R2 and put it in the VM hub's DMZ. Please also reserve the current IP for the R2 from the VM Hub LAN settings to ensure the R2's WAN IP doesn't change in future.

After that, re-test your speeds and see if it's any different.

Slightly faster, maxs out at 840

Edit, also the speed is never stable using the netduma, switching back to the VM router it hits 950mbit and stays there till the test is done, with the netduma its constantly bouncing between 650-840mbit now on the same tests.

My PC was in the R2's DMZ before i started posting this thread and it was the same, I understand i wont hit the 1000mbit cap but 150mbut is a decent amount to lose not to mention it struggles to maintain the high speed while the hub4 can sit near 950mbit during the full test

If that is the case then it's almost certainly the most you can achieve as Hub with R2 in DMZ and PC in R2 DMZ means the traffic goes straight through to the PC. What sites are you using to test the speeds exactly? How did you disable QoS specifically?

I have it set to Never, I also tried factory resetting the netduma and not touching the QoS, i then set it to always and changed it to 1000/75 and tried Traffic Prioritization on and off.

I used the speedtest app on windows 11, I tried 4 of the closest servers then 2 Virgin servers, I also tried Origin/Steam downloading the same games and last i downloaded a torrent of Mint and compared the speeds

How old are your ethernet cables and what type are they? Might be worth upgrading them if they are old and degraded. May or may not help.

Cat6 pair is 11 months old and the cat7's are 6 months old, I think if it was a problem with being old it would affect both routers.

Okay so QoS isn't properly disabled when setting to never, click the :menu icon top left of the Congestion Control panel then disable QoS fully there and see what the speeds are then

I factory reset the router then tried a speed test, I disabled the QoS and tried a speedtest, I disabled the Wifi and tried a speedtest then disabled the firewall/port flood protection and tried it again. The fastest i could hit was 860mbit but usually around 800mbit while same servers i always get over 900mbit

Using a torrent with a high amount of seeders i hit 960mbit and stayed around 930-960mbit for the first 20gb of the file using VM.

Using the netduma on the same torrent i hit 860mbit but the speed kept jumping from 740-860mbit

On the VM Hub, go to Advanced Settings > Security > Firewall and disable all the options there, also disable UPnP and if you haven't already WiFi would be best so no devices connected to it take away bandwidth from the R2. If you don't get any higher after that then that will be the maximum you can get as there is nothing else that could be changed.

It probably comes from the V Hub... My two 1G lines easily hit above 900 Mbps... Afterwards, between us I don't understand why you want to abandon R2 just for 10 mb/s the time difference will be minimal if you already manage to dl up to 100 mb/s... Anyway very few download servers allow it!

The fastest i could hit was 860mbit, that was rarely. usually its around 800mbit, i get 950mbit consistently not to mention the speed stays stable around 950mbit while the netduma cant for me.

So i would be losing around 150mbit the majority of the time plus a stable download speed and i must be lucky with the very few servers, steam, origin, epic and uplay all max out my connection and torrents obviously are great
