mukey
Basically the title is my question, will you get a better wired connection on a PS5 compared to a PS4 or not?
Bert
Not likely.

For 1Gbit appliances it's not going to matter what Ethernet cable you stick on it as long as it's Cat 5E or higher. Shielded also doesn't really matter. Most home routers and consoles have no metal ethernet ports so you won't be able to complete the earthing circuit anyhow. You can even transfer 10Gbit over short runs with 5E. For future proving, Cat 6 would be best though. N3CR0
zman1156
If you want overkill you could use CAT 8. Also unlikely consoles are really improving their network controllers,
Bert
Cat 8 is pointless for home use. Next to that most stuff you buy off Amazon labeled cat 8 is fake and not meeting spec. But unless you have a $1000 cable tester, you would not know that since there is actually no equipment in the world that is capable of using cat 8. Even for datacenters there is no equipment that uses RJ45 up to 40GBps. It exists purely on paper.

I have noticed that on PS4, while it downloading games and having the console on rest mode, you get 100 mb link speed instead. But on PS5, you still having 1000 link speed while on rest mode, so thats a big improvement. Just wanted to point it out. Netduma Fraser
crunkjuice1
The hardware will be limited to the upload bandwidth of Sony or Microsoft. 300 mbps and it can flutter a bit over that.
