What to put in for bandwidth?

Recommended Posts

When I set my bandwidth, do I put in the speeds advertised by my ISP, or the actual top speeds that I can get on speedtest.net? Because I know that my isp advertises 20 mb download but I can only get like 16. What do I put in, 16, or 20?

I enter the speed thats being pushed to my router, i go into the router GUI and get them there.

I do not know why it is said to put your advertised up to speeds in that case it will not calculate right when you pull the sliders you will not get 70% of your speed etc if you do this.

It is just been repeted I am not calling any one out for saying so :)

I put my real world speed test in so it works to best of it's ability.

I pay for 80/20 but get at the moment 55/17 it would be crazy for me to put 80/20.

It was not you that said it raddy :)

Like i say i do not blame anyone for saying it as i see this being said quite often one of the developers so it just being repeted.

It does not make sense to me to do this though.

I fell foul of this a few weeks ago and in the end to get my figures I plugged in my old homehub router with no R1 connected and did several speed tests at speedtest.net.

Unplugged the homehub and plugged in the R1 and put in my figures from there.
