Tez
The majority of servers are dedi to my knowledge. Great to a certain extent but if I connect to Ireland's dedi for R6, which is a bit hit and miss, sometimes I get a nice smooth connection sometimes I don't. The same applied to Battlefield 1 (server in Ireland, sometimes good sometimes bad) but then I realized that BF1 had an option to sort each game by ping and remember your fav server- lag sorted. Now on NetDuma if I hit a bad cluster or server within the dedi then I immediately want to ban that game. The only options I see is temp ban, great but I would have to repeat the process the next day for every dud server. The other option is 'allow and deny'. I've added my favorite Servers to the green area on 'allow deny' by naming them and pressing return but I can't find a way of telling Netduma to only allow servers in the green area, it always finds a different one. Sooooo.. Why only temp ban, the only answer I can find is that is messes up future gaming.. but why? And is there an option to only allow servers in the green area? Administrators Netduma Admin Posted February 4, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 4, 2018 Hi Tez - the reason you can only temporarily ban a server is there is a risk a user could accidentally permanently block a usually good server, making their game unplayable over the long term. If if you are happy with the connections in your allow list, then what you could try to do is move your home location to the ocean and then set your distance radius to the minimum, so you’re not covering any land. This means the only connections allowed through are those you entered in your allow rating. I would not recommend this in general though - it is likely to cause very long search times. But obviously feel free to try it if you would like to and remember to put your location and distance back to where they were before if you are not getting games. How would this differ from denying/allowing peer hosts? Surely we could just hit the reset button in order to allow them again should we need to. Allowing the ability to allow or deny servers gives us far more control over our gaming experience, especially in games where simply finding the lowest latency lobby doesn't mean it's gonna be a good game
Tez
Thanks for the reply I'm guessing I have to set ping assist to 0 too? How would this differ from denying/allowing peer hosts? Allowing the ability to allow or deny servers gives us far more control over our gaming experience, especially in games where simply finding the lowest latency lobby doesn't mean it's gonna be a good game I agree, there a plenty of solutions here surely;. I'm blue sky thinking but let's say a pop-up saying dedi servers blocked or a link to a separate page listing all the blocked dedi servers with tick boxes so can select and unblock, or an advanced button with warnings etc. Also, There are already plenty of options within Netduma that can mess up your gaming experience if you don't know what your doing, it's part of the deal that you have a basic technical background and most of us except that- it's not plug and play. Tez
There's no update button but when I name a Dedi and press return it appears in Allow Deny. So just to clarify, Allow Deny is for blocking p2p connections only or can I use it for Dedi?
Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted February 6, 2018 Netduma Staff Share Posted February 6, 2018 How would this differ from denying/allowing peer hosts? Surely we could just hit the reset button in order to allow them again should we need to. Allowing the ability to allow or deny servers gives us far more control over our gaming experience, especially in games where simply finding the lowest latency lobby doesn't mean it's gonna be a good game Allowing people to block dedicated servers would be great for people like you IIIRC, though imagine a new user got a Netduma and started blocking servers and couldn't connect to the game full stop. We haven't added it to prevent new users / less tech-savvy people from accidentally ruining their gameplay. We are looking into solutions though. There's no update button but when I name a Dedi and press return it appears in Allow Deny. So just to clarify, Allow Deny is for blocking p2p connections only or can I use it for Dedi? All the dedicated servers should already be 'allowed', though they won't be on your allow list. If you turned off strict mode for example, you would be able to connect to them even though they are outside of your radius. You will only be able to temporarily ban them. I'm liking the interest in the ability to block dedicated servers though. Trust me when I say that we're looking into it! Plus, on DumaOS the deny and allow features are far more intuitive than the current version. We'll figure out a way to allow technical people to block them without impacting the less technical - it's one of those things we really want on the software.
