I Believe my Netduma is a Lemon (Dog Slow Speeds)

Recommended Posts

Ever since I bought my Netduma I have been encountering Bandwidth issues. My speeds have not come close to what I am paying for. I have set it up according to the slow internet speed threads to no avail. I factory reset it before these tests, and it did not help. Reset and Updated both Download and Upload Distributions did not help. Pretty sure everything is ticked that should be ticked.

Before you blame my lines or the ISP, my lines have been replaced and if I designate my R7000 as the main router I get full speeds and then some. Once the Netduma is put in place, my speeds tank.

Before you blame it on the modem, I performed tests with both the Highly recommended TP-Link TC-7610 as well as the NetGear CM600 (more channels, maybe more bandwidth). The results were the same between both modems. I also tested directly to the modems, and I get full speeds.

I have attached images of my tests with both the CM600-R7000 and the CM600-Netduma as well as TC7610-R7000 and the TC7610-Netduma. I have also attached images of my current setup on the Netduma.

Everything else has been Great with the Netduma except my internet speeds.. It should not take me 20 hours to download a 2hr podcast vs 1 min with the R7000.

Current Netduma Setup:

Modem Levels

SNR is a bit low, I wouldn't be surprised if your upstream SNR is below spec and have some noise on your lines...

But that shouldn't have anything to do with your speeds dropping with the R1...

If you want I can get on teamviewer right now. Just PM me your ID and password

I would suggest you let mod box take a look on teamviewer.

I did, it's still really inconsistent. All settings are right on the Netduma. The only thing I could possibly think of is a bad ethernet? But then the same cables are used on the other router and it works fine.

Upload Speeds are still hanging in there. Download speeds are starting to tank again.

Sunday AM, should be pretty light on congestion.

Can you do a speedtest on a different device?

Can you do a speedtest on a different device?

Here is some speed tests from my phone. If you look at the history, the Netduma was reactivated on the 22nd. The tests before that were with the R7000.

Is there a way to upload photos from your mobile? Doesn't seem to be working.

You can share the link in the Speedtest app for each individual test

Just a few things that spring to mind as possible causes.

Using auto DNS do your speeds return?

Do you have any devices set outside DHCP range in DHCP lease?

Are you Geo-filtering your PC?

Disable stealth mode and try that

I switched it to auto dns... still inconsistent speeds

I don't remember if anything was set to static IPs

Only thing in the filter was his console

Go into (I think it's WAN) and clone your MAC address from your R7000. Save the settings, then reboot from misc settings...

Once the router comes back on, wait a minute.. Then reboot your modem.

Test again.

I'll give that a go.

Auto DNS =No change

Nothing outside of the DHCP.

No Geo filter for PC

Stealth is now off. There was no change with stealth mode on or off.

Cloned the MAC address from the R7000 and it's still performing the same.

For your dns servers, if you run these two bench marks what dns servers are the fastest?

https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

https://code.google.com/archive/p/namebench/downloads

I would use the 2 fastest dns severs and enter their ip in the dns server box in the r1.

After running those, I went with..

68.2.16.25

and

68.2.16.30

No change in speeds using those DNS servers or when having Auto DNS ticked.
