jordW
Hi, I'm in the UK and have BT Infinity 2. My router/modem (I'm not sure what the difference is) is downstairs and it's the Home Hub 5. The Infinity 2 is the highest deal you can get - 80 download 20 upload. However, because my router/modem is downstairs and I'm upstairs on wireless as I'm unable to reach a Ethernet across my house as it would look untidy I only get about 30 download and my ping is high. As you can imagine this is quite annoying when you're expecting more download and a better ping. What will this router allow me to do? I'm not sure how all the router/modems work. Can I just plug this into my room from the sockets in the wall and Ethernet my Xbox and PC up and I'm good to go and my problems are solved? pollutionblues
Hi Jord, You need to invest in homeplugs (sometimes called powerline adapters) these will allow you to ethernet your devices that are upstairs. I use them and they work very well and are really easy to setup.

Zennon
For me it has to be master socket > router right at the master > ethernet wired through the floor boards = best connection i can get. You will be on an upto 80/20 a wired speed test from down stairs will give you your true speeds http://www.speedtest.net/
Akic
For me it has to be master socket > router right at the master > ethernet wired through the floor boards = best connection i can get. You can't beat ethernet all round but I'm too lazy for that so went with homeplugs and they're not far off. Slight drop in throughput and no difference in ping. JordW have you got av500 homeplugs? I find they far outperform 80 or 200s

Take a look at THIS it may help and also i would use something like inSSIDer to optimise your wireless network, you can find inSSIDer 4 on your favourite torrent site as i did . Administrators Netduma Iain Posted May 27, 2015 Administrators Share Posted May 27, 2015 jordW if you have wireless lag problems homeplugs are the way to solve wireless lag. But that is only one part of lag, there is also distance & local congestion. These are the more common causes of lag. The R1 can help you with those.
