R1 and Nighthawk

Recommended Posts

Im trying to take advantage of the MAXX speeds Time Warner has implemented.  R1 doesn't support 300/20 Mbps.  So I went back to setting up my gear as follows:

Modem/Nighthawk/R1

I need to take advantage of the wireless speeds so thats the reason why I went this way.  I only need the R1 for console gaming (xbox 1 connected via wired).  My question is this:

I can't seem to access the R1 setup page anymore via wireless since my laptop has no ethernet ports.  If I setup modem/r1/nighthawk, I am able to access R1 setup page via wireless.

How can I access R1 setup page wirelessly if I'm setup with modem/nighthawk/r1

I assume you mean if you are connected to the Nighthawk? If so if you, go to Settings >> Miscellaneous and enable 'Access control panel from WAN'. Then go to 'Device Manger' and look at 'WAN IP'. You will be able to connect to the Netduma from the Nighthawk with that WAN IP :)

Hey Crossy.  How would I be able to pull that WAN IP from the R1 if I have no way of accessing it with current settings.  Any suggestions?  I know you have the answer!  LOL Thanks man!

Haha, on your current router is there a device manager or anyway you can see connected devices - if so then you can probably see the IP there. But you still won't be able to access the dashboard without enabling this option from the dashboard anyway.

Ok :) If you do that then you can get the WAN IP from device manager :)

  • 4 weeks later...

No sorry, its ASAP. We're a small team so deadlines are kinda pointless as we're all working as hard as possible. I would be surprised if it was not done within a month though.

That's reasonable.  I should be getting my R1 tomorrow and my internet is currently 30/5, but I'm getting upgraded to 200/20 by June 30th (my ISP just said no later than 6/30, wouldn't give me a firm date), so a few weeks on a moderately slower connection won't kill me.

Thanks Iain!
