Periodic Slowdowns of Xbox One Wired Connection

I am having occasional slowdowns of my wired Xbox one connection.

I use ATT Uverse with 20Mbps/2Mbps, I have my xbox one hardwired to my modem/router and have opened all the necessary ports and created a static IP address.  I have an "open" NAT.  I use google DNS.

When things are functioning properly the xbox network test yields 20 Up and 1.4 down.

When I experience slowdowns in game, this same test shows 1-2 Mbps Down, less than 1 Up. When I use speedtest.net on my phone which is connected by WiFi it shows normal download speeds of 20 up and ~2 down during the slowdowns, suggesting it is something with the wired connection to my xbox one.

The slowdowns would happen every 30 minutes or so.  I tried disabling IPv6 and this seemed to decrease the frequency of the slowdowns.  Now happens once every 1-2 hours.

I only notice the slowdowns when gaming on xbox one, as streaming videos or long downloads do not seem to have the problem (or I don't notice a problem).  The slowdown lasts from 30sec to 4 minutes then goes back to normal.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you talking about going into Detailed Network Stats?

Thats so inaccurate. Always tells me I have stupidly low download speed compared to the 220 download speed I actually have.

Used to be accurate for a long time, hasn't been in months now.

Hey, welcome to the forum. It's worth keeping in mind that the results could be inaccurate; it seems many people are saying they are. But you could also try these settings for your speeds:

- Pre-emptive Algorithm
- 70% anti-flood
- Share excess enabled
- Reset device prioritisation & apply
- Ensure the ethernet cables you're using work properly.
- Do a wired speed test from a PC

If the results of a wired PC speed test do not vary, it's very likely that the Xbox results are inaccurate.

I just had this happen to me yesterday. It's the Xbox.

1.) Go to setting on the Xbox then network settings. Go to advanced settings. Go to alternate MAC address. Select clear. The Xbox will reboot.

2.) Then hold the Xbox 'on' button for 20 to 30 seconds. Then unplug the Xbox from the rear of the Xbox (not the wall) for the same amount of time.

Then rerun your speedtest on your Xbox. Hopefully your speeds will be back to normal.

Just tried this three times... didn't work for me.

Sorry to hear this.  Definitely try Jack's suggestions.  Do you have a network switch in your setup and are you in the preview program?

Already have it set up as Jack suggested. No network switch and no preview program for me.

All you can do is try trial and error.  Unsure of what the exact cause is but I do not believe it is the router.  It is either one of three things: your Xbox, Ethernet cord, or Xbox Servers.

Now this is a reach. Try swapping your DNS server selections from 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 to 8.8.4.4/8.8.8.8.  Google DNS servers have been performing very well of late.

If that doesn't work try exchanging your ethernet cord that connects your xbox  to the router.  And lastly and I hate to say this you may need to contact Xbox Live support here.

Hi i am trying to do the same thing as i have just got my Netduma and am on a 20/2 connection.

The only part i dont understand is:

- Reset device prioritisation & apply

So you are saying you should have the device prioritisation all set to the default value?

This confuses me as i would of thought you would want to prioritize the xbox to battle congestion?

Or should i be setting the prioritisation back up once resetting?

If this is the case, what is a good value to start at to set my xbox too? i have been trying out my download at 58/6 (58 to my xbox and 6 to all other devices)

and my upload at 65/5

with 7 devices that can possibly connect to the network, only two of them are problematic to my gaming connection due to living with 2 girls and dey just netflix crazy.

any help is greatly appreciated

Kind Regards

Hey, welcome to the forum! Games use very low amounts of bandwidth; it's better to leave the device prioritisation for things such as downloading large files etc. If you have 'Share Excess' enabled, your console will definitely get the small amount of bandwidth it requires anyway. Putting your console into Hyper Traffic and setting your anti-flood to 70 / 70 is the best way to ensure your game takes full priority.

Let us know if you have any more questions :)
