Macabi83
I want to only have my ps4 have the amount of internet which I choose, why is it if on box download, and upload prioritization wheel I pull it back to 0, 0 when I do speed tests I am still getting any sort of connection, any way for this to work with out having to untick dont share excess, my wife would be happy then I can rig my ps4 speeds accordingly for w.e game and I do not crash the whole house internet to a crawl? Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted October 19, 2016 Netduma Staff Share Posted October 19, 2016 I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but I'll try! Putting the PS4 down to 0 on the Device wheel will still allow it to get some bandwidth I believe - a sure way to make sure a device doesn't receive Internet access is to disable it in the device manager. You shouldn't need to give a device a particular amount of bandwidth though; your PS4 shouldn't be slowing your house Internet to a crawl to begin with. Make sure your anti flood is set to 70 / 70, and put your PS4 in hyper traffic. It would be useful at this point to know more about your speeds, set-up and settings if you could tell us? Codeman
I have also had problems with device prioritization not working without unchecking share excess and have sent my Netduma back because of it. I will sum up what was said in my exchange with Netduma support. They seem very insistent that anti-flood must be set at 70/70 in order for device prioritization to work properly which seems counter intuitive to me. You'd think it would work independently of anti-flood and regardless of what percentage you set anit-flood to but that appears not to be the case according to them. That was not an option for me since my internet is on the low side and I could not afford to cap my bandwidth at 70/70 with anti-flood so I sent it back. I wish you luck with your issue. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 25, 2016 Administrators Share Posted October 25, 2016 You got it, share excess is causing it to still have a connection as it determined other devices weren't completely using the bandwidth you had available and that another device needed some. Share excess off essentially locks the devices at the limits you set but then if a device watching Netflix needs more bandwidth then it won't get it as it can't share the excess. 70/70 anti-flood should be completely fine to eliminate any lag issues you may have. Codeman
I would add that ideally you should be able to increase the slider for a given device to reserve at least a certain percentage if It needs more. I say ideally because it didn't work for me and my devices stole reserved bandwidth from another device even though the device being stolen from needed it, a concept that I believe support failed to grasp when I explained in my thread but I digress. Perhaps it will work for you by setting your anti-flood to 70/70 as they insisted that I do but couldn't as I was unable to sacrifice 30% of my bandwidth. It sounded like you said your worried that your PlayStation is going to take all your bandwidth leaving your wife with none so you could for example leave share excess checked and reserve say 50% cumulatively(her half) to her device\devices and she would always have access to that 50%, or more if the other 50%(your half) is not being used and the same would go for your devices. CDubLDD
I don't know if this applies, but I'm trying to use the device prioritization when my rooomate is using Netflix while I'm gaming on my PS4...I move the slider to give my PS4 more priority and even move his Xbox down to 0 and it literally makes no difference when looking at the network monitor. It shows the same amount of usage no matter what. I'm on the latest firmware at 1.03.6h and have my CC at 70% for both up and down. Does the device prioritization even work? Where you changing the upload or download device prioritisation? Did you have shared excess ticked? It's better to make a new thread when getting support. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 30, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 30, 2016 Sounds like what Crossy says. Though with 70/70 anti-flood neither of you should experience any lag. Especially if you put your console in hyper traffic.
