Best ISP in Saudi Arabia? STC vs Mobily.

Hi everyone, So i currently have STC dsl which was good back then but now its completely trash. I used to get 6mb download speed and it was pretty stable but since i upgraded to 8mb im starting to experience issues. The line has become unstable sometimes there are so many crc errors and yesterday it was constantly disconnecting for like an hour and its been doing this everyday now. The snr is solid most of the time but sometimes its fluctuating or gets really low. 6mb was way too slow for me i couldn't  stream hd movies and there are three people in the house so you can imagine what its like when 3 people are streaming videos on a 6mb connection. I have complained to STC about this issue and they keep telling me that its a problem in their cabinet and recommended me to lower my speed which just doesn't work for me. They are not ready to fix/upgrade their cabinet because they are too cheap to do that for their customers. So the other option im left with is Mobily Elife (FTTH)  service as i don't have STC fiber optic in my area yet. The mobily Fiber optic cabinet is right in front of my building so i believe speed and ping will not be an issue at all but some of my friends say that their after sales service sucks while others say that they provide a great service so im really confused and i know its a little more expensive but i want to know your opinions about the two ISP's. Mobily has already come to me like 3-4 times encouraging me to get their service. Hopefully other members from Saudi Arabia will see this post.

fttp is far better thank what you got now and you should get insanely low pings being so very close to the cabinet. As you are in saudi i dont know what it is gonna be like for gaming as of server locations but it will be a damn sight better than what you have now. i am on fttc and i love it. All isp's have good ratings and bad ratings from satisfied and unsatisfied customers, you cannot please all of the people all of the time. You will never know until you get it installed. but it will be better than what you have at the moment.

I get 60-85ms pings to european servers with my crappy dsl so i believe it will be good with mobily's ftth too.

your speeds will be higher but not sure about ping as ping is related to distance, but onver fibre it should be quite a bit lower than what you are getting now, but nothing is certain.

Hello Mr. maazsk97 ..... my Neighbour. :D

I am also from Saudi Arabia - Jeddah.

I have FTTH connection provided from STC of 200/80 down/up mbps.

although I am a STC customer and I haven't had any connection issues.

but what I can tell fairly that you should look for the good technology not the ISP.

FTTH is very good service regarding stability and speed, if Mobily does provide that service to you then you are good to go.

STC DSL is really dependant of the cabinet, if it is a poor type, then you have no options to fix your connection.

I am happy to help you whenever you need. :D

thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

I complained again to STC and they reduced my speed to 6mb and told me thats the optimal speed you can get in order to have a stable line because their cabinet is old and can't support more than that. Now everything is working smooth but i threatened them that im switching to Mobily if they don't fix this and they told me that they are working on getting fiber optics in my area asap so lets see if they really are bringing fiber to my area or its just a lie.

Tired of STC's bs i ordered FTTH connection from mobily. STC dsl is very unstable now as they don't maintain their equipment and they keep on lowering my speeds which is just unacceptable for me so i decided to switch to Mobily because its fiber and fiber is never bad and their FTTH cabinet is right in front of my building so today I will meet Mobily's technician.

Good luck, sounds promising :D

Thank you. Today a tech came and told me that some work needs to be done in the fiber box outside my building. So hopefully i can get the connection in 1-3 weeks. Right now i can't stand this crappy 4mb connection. The IW beta is free for everyone to try till monday so hopefully i can download it before monday if im lucky. Im frustrated with my crappy connection right now and excited at the same time for the new internet connection im about to get :D. Im getting 25/5 package. While most of my friends upgraded to fiber optics a long time ago i never got a chance to upgrade but now its my turn :)
