Do you notice a difference on your PS4 when you play with the USB cable plugged in?

I've noticed that if my cellphone is within 1 foot of the ds4 that it will lag.

I've also noticed that you need line of sight between the ps4 and ds4 for them to work, even though they're connected via bluetooth.

try resetting the ds4:

I am a foot or so away from my ps4 and I did move it so that it was directly inline with the controller and it's still the same

Did you do the reset procedure?

How old is the ds4?

Could be time for a new one. Mine lasted about a year.

No need to factory reset the PS4. It won't help.

I meant how old is the ds4 (the controller).

If nothing helps with the controller lag, I would buy another one.

If that controller has the same problems, return the new controller and call Sony support.

Your PS4 may need to be replaced.

Are you only getting this controller lag while in the game only?  Do you get the delays when using the controller to navigate the PS4 menu?  From what you are describing, it sounds more like game lag than controller lag.   If you want to test the controller, go into a private/custom match and test.  You should be able to move freely.  Also, it may be problems with specific buttons (not lag).  Because of the pressures, L3 and R3 are often one of the buttons that tend to wear/break more quickly. I have lots of friends with issues these buttons.
