Ping plotter and dslreports results

Recommended Posts

So, after having major issues with BO3, as I know a lot of people are, I found quite a few posts about ping plotter and dslreports and using those to get some reports and then posting it here on the forums. First off, I'm using att gigapower with approx 55 down and 5 up. When I ran the dslreports it gave me an F for BB and D for speed and D for quality. Holy shit. I can't say I'm not surprised but shit. I did notice that the ping seemed very low, usually in the 3-10 ms range when on the download portion. Then it all goes to shit in upload. Like the entire time it's reading 700-900 ms. I'm assuming this is what's giving me the F for BB. So, I need some serious help. I can post a shot of the ping plotter also. Also, I don't currently have the Duma hooked up as I just moved and haven't had it set up. I'm assuming I'll need to add it back in line to my setup? Obviously I need some serious help with this.

Adjust your congestion sliders down from 100% in smallish increments until you get an 'A' in bufferbloat (and hopefully 'line quality' too). That's all there is to it really. Not sure how much of a difference it actually makes though.

Regarding ping plotter, use an ethernet cable, run ping plotter for a couple of hours at peak time, when nobody is using your internet at all and post up your result - ping something big and local too, I ping the BBC website in the UK (which is where I am) because I sometimes suffer bizarre pings to Google DNS.

You don't need your Netduma in the loop when running PingPlotter because it's testing the integrity of your line, when I test with PP I connect my computer straight to the modem so that nobody is able to use the internet and so that it's impossible for anything within my network to interfere.

Yeah I have to find a good time to get everyone off the net here lol, it's difficult. I have my laptop connected directly to my router/modem combo, so I was already using that setup. So I'm guessing you have an A for BB and A for quality and it doesn't help with BO3? Man, I want to like this game because I love to play cod but this game is absolutely insane right now server wise I think. So I could see where fixing this stuff might not help. I appreciate the reply my man. I will probably at least hook the Duma back up and play around with it. Wish it was easier than that lol.

Also, after I run the ping plot test how do I get the entire thing in one screen shot? Haven't used it before today. Thanks again.

You want to set the 'focus time' (along the top) to 'All', I think.

And right click the graph (at the bottom) and select the amount of time you want to see displayed.

Right click along the top and you can change which fields are displayed too.

Then you're good to go.

Thanks again bro. I was able to get A+ for BB and quality actually. Went and played about 3 games. Still fucking terrible. Checking in game ping graph it would go up to 80 ms sometimes. I don't trust that at all because majority of the time I show 17 ms ping and the game is absolutely playing like shit now. I literally think this is the worst game I've ever played connection wise. I'm incredibly close to trading it in and just waiting for the new one.

People keep blaming the game but the game runs smooth for me on a no jitter line.

Show us your ping plotter results from a peak time test by pressing file , save image, then click on more reply options here bottom right of the forum, thanks.

There is a major packet loss issue coming from either the filter , the cable to the modem, the modem itself or the Ethernet to the testing device.

Yeah I knew there was a major issue. So what's the stuff that I can test for and the next steps? I assume using different cables is one. I used my laptop with a direct cable to my modem/router combo. That's what att uses.

I actually left for vacation til the end of next week but I am ordering all new cat 6 cables and replacing everything. So, I haven't replaced them yet. Planning on doing that and retesting several times then posting more results. Will have some more posts here next week when I get it done. I did assume that was the first thing everyone would ask me to do. All of the ones I'm using now are in good shape and not damaged at all but I know replacing them and running the tests again is the first logical step. Thanks for the suggestion man

I had to do a lot of testing when I had issues...

I replaced my cables, tried two routers, two laptops and I factory reset everything.

In the end I connect direct to my cable router, with a brand new cable, and the problem persisted.

It became obvious that it was an isp/line issue...

Got an engineer out with no success.

I'm now in the process of changing isp.

Yeah that's what worries me. I do have some options for testing but with att it's a combo router/modem, so at most I can request they come out and replace it and check the line. But it's brand new fiber to the house. Already pisses me off knowing I'm having these issues with a fiber line. Im hoping to find a fix, but I've also noticed like a lot of other people, is that cod is the only game where I have these latency issues. I do realize that it probably get noticed more in a game like cod that is a twitch shooter and micro seconds make all the difference. I do wish I had a friend close by to test his line and stuff. My only other option right now is time warner and I know they won't be any better.

You do not need to change ISP as you are on fibre so do not worry about that, there is an issue with a vdsl filter your ISP modem/router or something on the line or in your property.

Good spot Zennon.

Sorry Apowell, I didn't read your first post carefully enough.

Mine was a cable connection rather than fibre (which I'm now changing too).
