iAmMoDBoX
So I was thinking, since we all know that our call of duty servers, especially black ops 3 servers, basically suck... Do you think it would be a good idea to convince Treyarch to "turn them off" for a day, week, or month, and see how the game plays? The game is already coded to fall back on the P2P system if you can't connect to a server so to do it would be as simple as flipping a switch honestly. fuzzy clam
I'm guessing with all the new dedi's they put in lately,I found at least 15 so far in the Illinois bank (PS4)...all new. They wouldn't go for it but it would be interesting to see what it would be like now that we've all played on the dedi's. I would love to try it out thou as I really don't know which one is better dedi's or P2P,have good games on both and bad games on both. Good idea MoD
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted April 12, 2016 Administrators Share Posted April 12, 2016 Don't think they would do it but would be awesome, I think P2P would work great especially with the duma.
Zennon
Play the old 360 cods and you can feel how good the geo is with p2p
Dillinger
I have played a lot of games P2P on the XB1 on my bad kid account. I honestly think I am in a lower tier of match making on just that account, but the game plays a lot better. Here's my initial though to what I think the reaction would be from the community: *Host Migration* - "Damn it Treyarch, WTF!?!?" The community has been fixated on dedicated servers for years now and half of the community is still shocked to learn they have been on dedicated boxes for the last two iterations. The rest of the players "out there" *sweeps hand across Dumaless horizon* don't know what we know. They don't know the difference between them other than some mouth breather with a channel told them it would fix their problems. Then you get some asshole who can't take a loss, and we have a few of those around here, who gets butt hurt because he isn't the next lobby OpDic player who is going to complain about the connection when the host isn't "up to their perception of good enough". It's a lose/lose. If they don't do it, we are left wondering what if and we complain about the dedicated boxes. If they do it, and it doesn't change the game from dark to light for most of the frequent bitchers, then they get a ton of NEW flack about the game not playing well on either hosted environment. Plus I imagine they have leases in place for dedicated server time that they probably won't get a credit on when they decide to NOT host on the boxes they had reserved. I, for one, greatly prefer how the game plays on P2P and would LOVE to play nothing but that as I feel the game will be smoother all around - other than the failed host migrations. Interesting idea though - but I think you would need someone with clout to propose it to get enough people behind it to even register over at Activision/Treyarch
Zennon
I much prefer dedicated servers , no host migrations and no p2p host having a jittery line or his brother watching pr0n or YouTube while he hosts.
Dillinger
True, there is that aspect, but with the shear lode of available hosts? I can always rate that that one low and keep going. Repeat a few days in a row of playing and you will build up a nice little library of local, to your Geo Filter, hosts that offer good games. I did this for Blops 2 on both the 360 and PS3 variants. Takes a few days, but the results are well worth the effort to see a well rated host pop up.
JConnor
The inherent problem with a P2P system is the host almost always has the advantage simply because of how this system works. Dedicated servers, in theory, are supposed to "even the playing field" since nobody is playing on the same machine that is hosting the game. In reality, we know the dedicated servers are pretty bad, but it's mostly because of the things we've talked about ad nausea on this forum e.g. players from around the world connecting to domestic players, etc. So, I agree with Zennon, dedicated is the most "fair" way to host games as long as there is one relatively close to you, and even if not, I still prefer that over a P2P host that is literally some kids console hosting a game of 12 players on a residential broadband line vs. a commercial T1, or Fiber Optic line.
