Blinker, I haven't had any issues with DHCP at all. I am able to use DHCP on both the fiber gateway and the R3. I am essentially using the same setup I had with the R2 except now I can use the Wi-Fi radio on the R3. The R2 gave major issues when wireless devices were connected. And I am now connecting all my other hardwired devices to the R3 also because it is at least detecting my network speeds a lot closer to what it is than the R2 ever did.

At this point, just let them work on getting ping optimizer fixed first. I think once that happens, we should be able to get better congestion control setting numbers. I manually have set mine to 70 for both up and down for now. Make sure you disable letting 3rd party speed tests bypass congestion control and set it to always on. Auto setting for congestion control has never worked for me going back to XR450. I ran the waveform bufferbloat text in edge browser on the Xbox series x and the latency stats were almost identical to being connected directly to the Humax fiber gateway. I played a few games of COD to test it out. Games were showing higher latency but it was absolutely playable. I was playing resurgence.

Geo-Filtering doesn't work & other grievances
Alias 1aB replied to Zer0Aspect's topic in Netduma R3 Support
I had to factory reset after the firmware upgraded to .20. geo filter is working fine and the server shows up for COD on Xbox Series X. This new version of geo filter has some new features that seem useful. Will tinker with it more when I get time. From the couple of games I managed to sneak in, it looks like ping assist works a little different now. It seemed as it was adding latency to the connected server. Can anyone corroborate? -
waveform website Bufferbloat and Internet Speed Test - Waveform These are the settings on the R3: The network speed was autodetected at 928 down / 866 up. ping optimizer autodetected 100% download / 59% upload. Congestion control always on. I disabled speed test bypass. When I set congestion control manually, the Buffer bloat results are even worse. DHCP is still active on the ATT Fiber Gateway (Humax BGW-320) but the only devices that are connected to it are a Ooma VoIP phone box (wired) and IPTV box (wireless - I had to leave 2.4 Ghz on just for that because that box will not work with the R3 and I don't use it that often). Neither device uses much bandwidth as is. And like I said, ping optimizer uses a different server than the ping test does. I think it literally picks the geographically closest server to my location. I am thinking I might try to factory reset the R3 and see if I can trick it like I used to the do with the R2 by telling it I live near the lowest ping server instead.

reboot the R3 and then do the update. it will work. I just did it on mine.

yeah, I disabled speed test bypass under congestion control. It makes no difference. when I manually adjust the congestion control sliders, I still get really poor Buffer bloat scores. Almost every time I run ping optimizer, it gives me 100% for both upload and download. Also the ping test detects a much lower ping than what the ping optimizer test detects. The difference is from 15 ms to 33 ms. I assume that has more to do with the servers it is connecting to. Makes me think ping optimizer is not working as intended. Is there a way to force ping optimizer to use the same server it is doing the ping test from? Because my actual ping is anywhere from 12-15 ms to the fastest test server. Thanks

make sure the XBOX is powered on so it shows up on the list of devices you can assign the port to. then you have to add each port one by one manually for the device. go to port forwarding. just name the port 3074, then port range starts are 3074 and ends at 3074. at the bottom check both the TCP and UDP boxes. save. do it for all 5 ports. it really is not that different from the R2. you will figure it out once you do the first one.

update: fixed the double NAT error. had to go the NAT/Gaming section in the ATT Fiber Gateway and had to choose Xbox Series X service for DumaOS device. I also turned on UPnP on the R3. I also changed the IP Passthrough Allocation mode from Passthrough to default server and assigned the default server internal address to the IP address the gateway gave the R3.

Got the R3 in today. I thought it would be kind of a simple swap out of the R2 but I was wrong. So far Xbox Series X is showing DoubleNaT (didnt have this issue with the R2), ping optimizer configures itself at 99% download and 100% upload, built-in streaming apps were actually buffering on my TV, and my android IPTV box will not playback video when connected to the R3 as it just stays frozen. I had to connect the iptv box wirelessly to the fiber gateway to get it working again. The buffering stopped in the streaming apps once I manually changed the download and upload congestion to 70%. I still have not messed with the double Nat issue on the Xbox. I restarted both the gateway and the router, just have not turned the xbox back on to see if that solved that problem. I dont know if I will be able to turn DHCP on the gateway off if I cannot use my iptv box through the R3. I really dont think ping optimizer/ congestion control is working properly. I ran multiple bufferbloat tests and they were all Bs and Cs. I used to get A+ and As with the R2. I even had better results before when connected directly to the fiber gateway. I have congestion control set to ALWAYS ON right now. One of the positives so far is more accurate detection of actual internet speed. The R3 detected 914 down/ 883 up. My connection is 950 down & up. The R2 never came close. I miss the little connection benchmark tool the R2 had. The R3 is missing it. Any suggestions to help resolve these issues would be very welcoming. Thanks.

Hey Fraser my R2 was working for a few days again, then started doing the boot-looping thing again and havent been able to get it to work since. I did order a R3 so hopefully I will get one in the next 10 days? For the time being, I connected everything through ATT fiber gateway so it is not the end of the world. It just has no QoS at all.

Is QoS needed if you have enough bandwidth ?
Alias 1aB replied to unknownid's topic in Netduma R2 Support
i have 1 Gb ATT Fiber. The only 2 devices I run through the R2 are my HTPC and Xbox Series X. The wireless radios on the R2 are completely turned off. All other hardwired devices are connected directly through the Humax fiber gateway with the use of a couple of network switches. All tablets and phones connect directly to the Humax wirelessly. The R2 is connected to the gateway. I really did not have to do much to get it to work. All my NAT are completely open on the R2 in this setup. Here is a screenshot of the connection benchmark on the R2 for me: As you can see, the R2 can only detect up to 900 Mbps down and 700 Mbps up. The QoS is set to Always Enable. Down @ 78%, up @ 43%. Here are the bufferbloat test results: I hope this can help the ones of you that have similar 1 Gb fiber connections as I do. The R2 may not be the best one stop do it all router but it can still be very useful in gaming if you can get it setup right and you were lucky enough to get a less flawed router. -
Slow Speeds after changing to Netduma Router
Alias 1aB replied to baldurfour's topic in Netduma R2 Support
so I wanted to chime in here. from what I can tell, the whole auto-detect bandwidth and connection benchmark are clearly affected by whatever servers the R2 is connecting to run these tests. the R2 comes no where close to being accurate on detecting bandwidth speeds. when these servers are corrected, it could change a lot of things for many users of DumaOS 3. -

It's pretty much every website. Some load slower than others. The ones with lots of ad banners are the worst. The Google News app works fine though. And on PCs the adblocker being on does not affect the performance at all. It does what its supposed to do. I had to turn the adblocker off for now because it became a chore to web browse on the tablets which is what we usually web browse on. -

Got a Netduma R2 a little over a week ago replacing a Netgear XR450 that I had to RMA back to Netgear because the flash memory would not save the settings every time the power on the router was reset. As for the R2, I really like the DumaOS 3.0 over the 2.0. The new added features such as the polygon boxes, the heat pingmap, connection benchmark, and adblocker are nice. I have never had much success with QoS with any router I have owned but that has more to do with my ISP than anything as I have been with the same one for over the last 15 years now but the R2 seems to work much more accurately than the XR450. My ping rates have improved a little with R2 over the XR450 and it more accurately shows which devices are connected to the router than the XR450 ever did. The wifi connection at 5 Ghz is fine for my house with the R2 though it was a good bit stronger with the XR450. The 2.4 Ghz on the XR450 was super strong and had really good range but 2.4 Ghz wifi on the R2 is flat out weak. I connected my wife's Huawei phone as it does not support 5 Ghz to the 2.4 Ghz. From about 10 ft away, it was connected at 6 Mbps. 6! Fortunately that is the only device that needs the 2.4 Ghz as all my other devices all support 5 Ghz and/or are hard wired directly as my house is wired completely with Cat 6 to each room. So improving the 2.4 Ghz wifi on the R2 is something that obviously needs some work. The R2 does not have as many networking options as Netgear routers but for most people it will work just fine. The only other complaint i have against the R2 is the adblocker. When its on, Chrome on Android tablets almost comes to a halt. Safari on the Ipads isnt much better. Since 2007, i started with a D-link DGL-4500, moved onto a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 in 2013, then last year moved to the Netgear Nighthawk XR450 and in less than year have moved to the R2 because of the hardware failure on the XR450. I really hope the Netduma R2 is a keeper for the next 5 years.
