im out of contract at minute and fibre is supposed to be just arround the corner with the exchange enabled and the cab in the ground but i want to be sure i get the best service for my money.

years back at my old address i had really bad internet 1mb when it left exchange at 24 then switched to post office all people and they gave me 2-4mb and a very stable connection best pings id ever seen, then swapped to sky i think it was cause of a good deal but theconnection was terrible and after loads of phone calls and them playing around with things for whatever reason they couldnt match what i had with post office and finally agreed to let me return to post office but for some reason they couldnt undo whatever sky did.

ive been with talk talk for alot of years now and they used to be very good and the customer service was very good but i think thats the reason they grew in populairty and the company didnt match the customer growth with employee/customer service growth and its now terrible so dont fancy staying with them.

I don't really here many bad things about BT or Plusnet, I know you're pain with sky though

plusnet is top of my list at minute ive had bad experience with bt in the past but that was back when they never really had competition so it was bt or no one, doesnt really excuse their crap but maybe they been forced to improve

I think it can all hinges on where you live, and how good the infrastructure is. I am with Virgin, and although I have had no problems with them. There is plenty of evidence to show that others have.

I have been with BT and Sky at previous addresses with varying results, so my advice would be to ask around, go on Uswitch and see who comes up as the best for your area, what have your neighbours got, bear in mind that Virgin are upgrading to fibre optic and see if that would benefit you

Hope that helps :)

I think you're right.  I'm with SKY fibre (40/8) and not had a single issue, solid connection and good gaming.  I feel I might be the exception to the norm though reading other user's experience with sky.

I think it all comes down to customer services and who you get on the phone when you call, also be sure to check out any traffic management system they have in place and if it will impact your usage. I'm with Plusnet and have only had to call them 3 times in the year or so I've been with themm. However they have all been speed related issues, the first time was a simple case of wrong profile selected and was corrected quickly. The second time was due to a drop in speed and I hit a brick wall, the 3rd time was the same issue which was fixed with a new modem. I have answers in another thread detailing but the guy I spoke to in tech support was clueless. The wait times are quite high as well, the times I called it was upwards of 45 minutes.

I have been around the block with a few isps though and they're not the worst out there in my opinion.

Talk Talk are terrible as are Sky, haven't been with B.T for years but hear mixed reviews

I've been with BT for about 6-7 years now and only had to call them twice. I get 11 ms ping to south coast dedi and 28 down 6 ish up with exceptional results across the board on the tests.

Plug my R1 straight into the open reach modem and have around 14 devices connected with no issues.

But as has already been said, it depends on the distance to your cabinet and the surrounding area of the line.
