BL4CK OPS V3TRN
Hi Fellow Dumers I have not been happy with my sky fibre 80/20 with 25 ping for a long time , it just always felt wrong and glitchy compared to my previous ISP plusnet , so I made the switch to BT Infinity 1 38/10 7th December I thought what the hell give it a go . Anyway 7th came and 08.00 hrs my Sky fibre stopped working , I went to work came home hooked up BT and it did not work , not to worry they did say activation would be anytime on Monday Upto midnight . 23.00 hrs came and nothing so I went to bed , woke up Tuesday and the orange light was still on which meant NO internet !. Very dissapointed I was working away on Tuesday and wanted the thing working for the family so I called them whilst driving to work and got the call centre in India , the lady said oh there is a fault on your line and it will be fixed on Monday the 14th !!!!! A shiver ran down my spine as I unleashed hell down the phone and did my best impression of Victor Meldrew , 10 minutes later when I had finished the little Indian woman apologised and said somebody senior would call me by 11 hrs . NO call all day !!! , anyway Tuesday evening whilst having dinner with a client I received s text from my daughter saying the Internet was working ! excellent
SaltyMcSalty
Interesting, I'm with Plusnet now and have to say I'm looking for alternatives. My pings seem overly high and my speeds are nowhere near the advertised speeds. I'm on 80/20 and get 51 dwn and 18.7 up. Plusnet website says 65.8 dwn so quite the difference! Just called customer service and was told it's 1 hour queue to speak to someone haha.

Its all down to distance from the cabinet and as more people get added to the cabinet then crosstalk from the fibre slows you down as well. I started with 63mb down which is right for the distance from the cabinet now i get 53mb down after more take ups in the cab and crosstalk has kicked in. I am not upset as I know these are all factors you have to take into consideration when you have fibre for broadband.

The cabinet is in eyesight and the copper cable run is relatively short, I'm also super close to the exchange approx 70 yds as the crow flies but obviously not it cable length. My ping is 34 ms to Newcastle (70 miles), 28 ms to Carlisle (8 miles) and 25 ms to Milton Keynes (lots of miles). I've never had the advertised speeds and 50 meg is fast compared to some but given my pings were the same on adsl I'm a bit dissapointed. Spent 20 waiting minutes in live chat as I wasn't prepared to wait 1 hr on the phone only to be disconnected, the sat for 1 hr on the phone before I got bored. Plusnet didn't do me proud today. Will BT have a better quality connection given that the equipment is the same from wholesale? Is my high ping down to traffic management from Plusnet? Or am I just being overly critical and everything is at an acceptable level?
bagsta69
I'm with BT infinity, spoke to a helpful customer service rep when my ping was 32+ ms and literally overnight my connection went to exceptional across the board from good and my latency dropped to 11 ms and has stayed the same for around 9 months. Advertised speeds are up to 30 down and 10 up. I get 28 down and 6 up Never see any signs of traffic management either
Zennon
You have interleaving set by the DLM that is why your pings are higher. If you have a Hauwei cabinet and a Hauwei modem or compatible modem/router combo you can have G.inp which does error correction on the fly giving you fast path unlike interleaving which add error correction permanently which create higher latency. http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/fttc-cabinets.htm
BENORMOUS
There's something incredibly wrong with my sky fibre, the most inconsistent crap I've ever had to deal with, roll on may when I can get out of the contract
BL4CK OPS V3TRN
I dumped sky with 3 months of my contract to go without being charged . Told them if they try charging me I would dump the TV package as well , thankfully they agreed because I love SKY TV and would not have changed that
BENORMOUS
I'll be considering that option as well then
Myst1caL
Just got sky installed and was told the minimum i would receive is 33mb garenteed but my speed would be be between 35-43mb. I'm currently receiving 31mb down 6mb up and my ping to 8.8.8.8 is 28ms but with virgin cable or talktalk adsl is was between 14ms-17ms. they told me an openreach engineer reset my line ( load of bull still got interleaving ) engineer came to my house said the connection in the house is perfect and i should contact sky again ask for a dlm reset again. Waste of time most of the sky support woman argued the line was reset and went silent as soon as i said there is still interleaving as my ping has stayed the same since install. Anyway they told me to call again today I told them I'm leaving to join bt they agreed i could leave without penalty due to not receiving the minimum speeds quoted. Hassle ! Zennon
Sky have no control over DLM on fibre it is all down to open reach, sky have to request it, which it sounds like they are lying to you to fob you off.
SaltyMcSalty
Little update on my situation. After a bit of digging around it seems there was quite a few people having the same problems as me. Higher pings and about 15mb drop in d/l speed. It turns out it was the Openreach Modem that was the issue in my case. Mine didn't support g.inp and vectoring which slowed my connection considerably. I contacted PlusNet and asked them about the issue and they had no idea what I was talking about. I ended up buying a HomeHub 5 off Facebook for a tenner and as soon as I set it up I'm now Syncing at 68mb down and 19.5 up. My ping to Milton Keynes is down to 16 ms from 28 ms. Haven't played a lot of Multiplayer since changing it so can't comment on any differences gameplay wise.
Zennon
The ECI modem does not support G.inp the Hauwei does as long as you are on a Hauwei cab. Good news that you now have fast path
