Matt_Akira
so as the topic suggests I'm currently with sky adsl and it's not great with many devices at home streaming, so as sky was my only option virgin are cabling our street as we speak, I've heard of awful ping spikes at peak times and problems with Vm so what would any suggest? I know it could possibly vary by area but would it make any difference surely fibre optic would be better? I'm confused haha! many thanks in advance! Cheers. Matt Hey Matt_Akira, I'm not sure you would be affected if the cable is only just being laid fresh in your area, you can find average speed results from around your location or ask around who's a little tech savvy, maybe friends who game would be the best comparison (obviously). If you lived by me I'd tell you not to bother, 2-5mbs download roughly by 3:30pm then it sticks til around 11pm then slowly you start gaining speed back, upload always remains what you pay for. I'm currently on 100/6 During the said time you'll get bad jitter along with idle ping at 24-70ms with spikes upto 900ms. By 12am you get full speeds and perfect quality but mine has got worse. I happen to live in one of the areas where you hear the stories... Hope thats not too bad of a description to put you off
Matt_Akira
Thanks mate, I think I'm still going to give it a go as it can't be any worse than sky haha, thanks again mate
Zennon
High latency at peak times and slow down is the norm for many customers including some of my friends, defiantly not a gaming friendly ISP.
Akic
I was with Virgin at my old house but couldn't get it at my new place so went with SKY. For me the SKY connection is far better for gaming, had massive bandwidth with Virgin but was always lagging. Can't give any detailed ping times etc as that was before R1 days. Matt_Akira
Ok I've kind of rethought about going with virgin, Sky fibre would be nice, I'm also on the train of thought that if virgin are laying fresh cable it may be ok? Maybe haha
