nollies1
I am here once more asking for your support/thoughts/ideas etc. Ha! This forum has been an amazing resource and so I thought I'd start off by simply thanking all of you who are active up here ANYways, ok so let me just dive right in... I. Quick background (I'll eventually stick some info in a signature or something); for now: 1.a Current set-up here Internet to the Duma (with two PS4s and a laptop wired to it) and then the 4th port goes to an Asus router set in AP mode (for all wireless devices in the home); yes I've updated to the latest firmware, yes 1.b What 'effort' I've put in so far... I completely followed/follow the wiki guide, some instructionals in the forum, etc. All is good on that end and I do try to keep on top of things best I can II. Focus of current inquiry is - With regard to Blops3 on PS4, (and/or often the second PS4 also playing Blops3 at the same time); I cannot comment as to whether this is or will be applicable to other consoles/games. OK so I humbly ask for any input/advice on the following (general commentary is perfect!, no need to get specific as we all know 'optimizing' is a rather touch and feel, systematic process lol)... A. QoS aka Device Prioritization per Duma. To those who swear by this, what exactly is a 'good', logical, scientific approach to determining 'optimal' configuration? - I've dabbled here and there in terms of putting a reasonable amount of time tinkering around with the settings, but no matter what, and whether one or both PS4s are in use, it doesn't seem to matter, i.e., the situation we all have experienced where you can immediately notice when someone in the house is using the net, streaming something, etc. as the network takes a total dive... my motive in writing this (legit inquiry to try 'fixing' this, not at all am I ranting here) was the good ol going 17-5 and then all of a sudden I was shooting marshmellows and died 10 times in a row (???)... game literally ended with me 17-15 as a result. Sure enough I went into the other room and upon inquiry I found that someone here literally just started streaming some news channel minutes prior (i.e., total correlation with my sudden 'inability' to kill an enemy lol) - I understand the concept QoS but am not so sure about the practicality/ 'real-world functionality' of the algorithm(s) and its implementing... so, is it safe to assume that even if 'totally optimized' that QoS is still nonetheless more of a concept/theory... OR does it actually work 100% of the time and perhaps I'm still just not fully dialed in yet to an optimal situation over here on my end? ------------ B. Bonus questions haha (aka, a few quick random inquiries, I can make a new post if deemed more appropriate) but... think of it as you'll earn bonus points should you have gotten this far AND actually respond har har har)... Q1: What's the latest dogma (is there a link I've missed that has been 'solved' or otherwise not left unanswered?) on where we are all at (as Duma users) with regard to anyone who's found that 'magical setting' to conquer any of the random Blops3 'problems' he/she may be having. As an example, I simply cannot play whatsoever in a party the same way as when solo lone wolf dude... as in, it is clearly night and day in terms of response of controller, hit detection, you name it. (not ranting, seriously, who here has lost the ability to party up?!) Q2: What's the latest on those up here who have multiple/ up to four consoles connected to the Duma, and is anyone still having trouble with Blops3 and the Duma detecting your console(s)?... Even after reboot I'd say it's 50/50 as to whether the colored circles corresponding to the consoles in use over here actually show up on the geo map, as well as any other circles etc representing the others in the lobby Maybe it's something simple I missed such as the order in which reboot modem/router(s)/console(s), or being sure some setting is toggled upon loading of the game (e.g., ensuring geofilter is 'disabled' when launching the game) etc. etc. ***THANK YOU for anything you may feel inclined to reply to up here, let's definitely all try to work together and figure out our issues, as gamers and part of this awesome community oh and yes... SORRY FOR CRAFTING THIS LONG ARSE NOVEL Cheers, Q
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 5, 2015 Administrators Share Posted December 5, 2015 We always recommend 70/70 for anti-flood when gaming or when there is heavy usage of the internet, this will eliminate the impact other devices on your network have on each other. Some people experiment with the sliders in order to achieve a good rating for bufferbloat they do that by using https://www.dslreports.com/speedtestI believe and playing with the sliders until they reach a good rating. For parties you'll need to add them to your allow list which you can do by following http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=adding_friends_to_your_allow_listyou can only filter if you're the party leader. If you're having issues with seeing things on the map make sure to follow http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=why_can_t_i_see_anything_on_the_geofilter Hope that helps! fuzzy clam
Like Fraser said I would start with the 70/70 and tweak it from there. But like you said there are no "magic settings" as everyone's network is different. Some are concerned with BB and some could care less,IMO if the game is running duma smooth for me and I haven't changed anything then I'm less concerned with tweaks and fixes. But in my case that doesn't happen...ever. And if your in a party just make sure your leading it,so everyone can benefit from he duma's features. It takes a minute to find your ideal settings but you will, just takes a little playing around with your set up to find your sweet spot.
nollies1
Thanks. I will update if and when I make any progress. For now, indeed I've followed all the suggestions/links noted above... sans BB (I'll see if I can determine what my rating is, as I've read up here some examples of letter grades (A+, B, etc.) but couldn't find 'my' rating when I tried it once a week or so ago. Yes - I totally cannot play with anyone in my clan who is ~ few hundred miles or more away from me, whether party host or otherwise... without having to completely change my play style, and even then it doesn't always help. Never any complaints however when I'm solo, even if I'm losing badly (i.e., it to me always feels as more 'legitimate' losing whenever solo). Updates to come should I figure out anything more. Thx! -Q
II N3MES1S II
Trust me when I say to adjust and test with dslreports until you get the best line possible. You can pay for the highest bandwidth in your area and think gaming will be beast but if you have bad bufferbloat you will suffer.
nollies1
Whoa. The one thing I didn't check lol. Um... help!
nollies1
I'll do some digging around here and see how to take care of this. The "help" comment was just my sharing of the deer in headlights moment upon seeing the results
nollies1
All I did was click 'reset distribution' (PS4s were previously set to the yellow/orange boundary) and retest just now for fun. Weird. I'll keep testing as this was also performed at a different time of day, less people using the net vs. the previous test, etc.

Justnslayer
Ok so how does the gameplay now that you have A+ bufferbloat. I tested last night and i have C/D bufferbloat and the game lags to hell for me. I may as well be shooting a water gun. I tested last night and i have C/D bufferbloat and the game lags to hell for me. I may as well be shooting a water gun. MUCH more 'crisp'... unfortunately for the past two days I've had a bad/ shaky time in multiplayer... sure enough, I went and ran a test... and I'm back down to a "C" for buffer bloat. I cannot confirm with scientific data but for sure there's a huge difference IMHO and I can definitely tell a difference between a C/D and an A rating. Keep working at optimizing your QoS for sure buddy and post any updates should you make any progress! (or not lol) -Q
nollies1
UPDATE: What I needed to do was to adjust the QoS settings on the Duma. I recently redid my configuration such that the Duma is downstream from an Asus router. Since then, I was using the Asus to control all the QoS (i.e., the sliders on the Duma were placed at 100%). It's been a few weeks with no problems, and the above "A" rating was achieved by tweaking the QoS from the Asus. Somehow (?, unknown) over the past few days I've had poor gameplay, and so what I've since done is to also use the QoS on the Duma... I simply slid the sliders to 90%. Back to an A rating, and back to having nice 'crisp' gameplay.
nollies1
To clarify, the devices under the Duma are still all evenly distributed in terms of bandwidth, e.g. as noted above ('reset distribution'). Hope that helps and good luck
fuzzy clam
The bad thing about the testing is it has to be constant. You can run the same tests after 1-2 games and you can get a b for BB,b for quality. But you need to do this before every gaming session, you just can't hit A+ on everything and think you can just fire up your console and be good to go. Yes I do it before every gaming session and sometimes 2-3 times a night it I think the game is playing worse. It's a pain in the ass but definitely worth it. Same settings as above, for the past few days... now give me "Cs" across the board. Rebooting everything doesn't do anything. Bummer. Back to tinkering. I really hate to say this as I 100% worshipped this thing during AW, but for 'me'... my best experience is just with everything disabled. Argh.
