My Experience Using The Netduma (Panamá City)

Recommended Posts

Hi. First of all, English isn´t my native language but i want to share my experience using the Netduma R1. I ordered one router 1 week ago, it took 2 days to arrive to Panama City, and i´ve been using it since 5 days ago. As you know, Panama is a small country and i have never found a P2P game yet…Everytime the game connects me to USA. The closest Dedicated Server is located in Miami and Atlanta (AW).

But i want to confirm something that somebody talk about some weeks ago. The GeoFilter don’t work for  central and maybe latin america countries. That´s not due to the NetDuma at all, it is due to the lack of interconnection between the countries of Latin America. For Example. I put my Geo in my country and expand it to play with Costa Rica and Colombia, they are bordering countries, just 300 km away, and guess what… my ping to that countries are +110 ms.

That´s because all info has to go first to USA and then return to Latin America, here is how it works, period. No matter if i connect to a host 100 km away, if it is in other country, i´ll be laggy.

If i put my geo in Miami, sometimes i get good games, but others (the most) are +90 ping (same geo location), it makes sense. I'm placing my location 2000 km further from the reality that is, it really depends on the routes the internet decides to push the traffic.

So two possibilities:

-If i use the GeoFilter in my country and expand it to play with some others Latin America players (Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico) i almost never find a game, and if i find it, i suffer lag.

-Placing the GeoFilter in Miami, the closest Dedicated Server. Sometimes nice games (60ms), but also really bad games, using the same geo-radio (85-95 ms)

Best Option EVER:

Put my geo in the middle of the ocean, and set the ping assist to 75 ms. I get an amazing hit-marker, it´s like a dream! But i feel that ping assist is not working properly. I set 75 ms, and sometimes it takes too long to find a game, so i increase the ping assist to 90 and i connect to 65 ms ping...

So, if you could enhance the Ping Assist Feature, and not make it like a “Assist feature” but a “Feature”, that would be awesome for all Latin America Gamers or add some sort of condition for geo-filter, for example if you are within range and meets less like a ** ms ping allows me to connect. Because as I said, without moving the geo-filter, I get very different lobbies pings. Only as a suggestion... ;)

I have only used AW. I hope that putting the geofilter in the middle of the sea and use only ping assist works in BO3.

Sorry for my bad English.

man that sucks to hear if all the data is rooted through USA first and then into your neighbour countries

that sounds like ping assist might be a real saviour for you, definitely do what crossy suggested and update your router to the latest firmware as this will guarantee the ping assist works as intended!
