slim
Hello, My building provides my ethernet and while its incredibly fast I cannot play games very well on it because of the strict NAT type, I bought a netduma to combat that, I was wondering if there is a way to unrestrict it without using a VPN as VPN's generally cause lag when gaming. If not, if I could see a link to a thread about utilizing hybrid VPN as well that would also be helpful as everytime I've attempted to use it it says "Failed connection to server". Obviously with a strict NAT type I can't join parties or talk in game chat which is a serious issue for me. Thanks, Slim
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted October 5, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted October 5, 2015 Hi Slim, welcome to the forum For the Netduma to give you an Open NAT, either the correct ports need forwarding to it by the person who manages the ethernet connection or you need to ask the person who manages the ethernet connection to put the Netduma in the DMZ. The VPN hybrid only works for certain games - if it is CoD that you are playing you can't use the hybrid and would have to VPN the whole console. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 5, 2015 Administrators Share Posted October 5, 2015 Crossy has answered this very well, it may not be possible to get them to do the steps Crossy suggested, as most people who manage the internet for others are very apprehensive about changing anything like that. I'd suggest having UPnP forwarding ticked in miscellaneous settings as this will try to open the ports on the ISP hub to get you an open NAT, it may not work though. Also you need a separate VPN subscription if you don't have one already, but likewise as Crossy says you'd have to VPN the entire console and would likely have a strict NAT with VPN unless it was a VPN that had the relevant gaming ports opened. Any VPN's that can provide an open nat? I'm pretty new to this entire thing.
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted October 6, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted October 6, 2015 I play destiny. Any VPN's that can provide an open nat? I'm pretty new to this entire thing. I've never used it but apparently AirVPN allows you to do it. But you'll need to check their servers to make sure there is one close to you or you will lag But I've never tried opening my NAT using a VPN so not sure if these will work. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 6, 2015 Administrators Share Posted October 6, 2015 I haven't used AirVPN either but I would recommend searching for a Gaming VPN and seeing if they have ports opened to ensure an Open NAT, if you can't see it send them an email and ask
slim
Also, how do i go about VPN-ing the whole console? You can't hybrid it, right?
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted October 7, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted October 7, 2015 Also, how do i go about VPN-ing the whole console? You can't hybrid it, right? Just enter the config, username and password into the advanced section then click the console so that it is highlighted. This means all the data from the console will go through the VPN
