Bandwidth setting

Recommended Posts

Hi just a quick question, ive been a duma user since December so forgive me for this question as I probably should allready know, when you set ur bandwidth speeds how important is it to get them bang on?when you first plug in the duma it's default is something like 4.8 down and 1 up if im not far off,if I was to leave it like that and play some games even though my speeds are 80/20 would it impact my experience?im asking because I have mine set as 80 and 20 for down and up,should I be running speed tests to see what it gives me then enter those values in or leave it as what I pay for?should I do a detailed network stats on xbox one and put in what I'm getting to the console?all answers welcome and sorry for being a #dumanoob

All I do is set things up put congestion control sliders to 100% make sure that share excess is ticked and run a test on BT wholesale speed test site as speedtest.net doesn't always give the best results.

I then input the returned values into bandwidth settings and off we go.

I pay for "up to" (there's the catch all phrase) 30 down and 10 up, I actually get 29 down and 5-6 up so not too bad, certainly more than enough for gaming when you look at how much bandwidth the game is using.

I always try to be as accurate as possible as Crossy said,if you're way off it's gonna make a difference it how your features function.

Cheers guys ill certainly set that up correctly, ill go by detailed network stats on the xbox one,I tested last week like 10 times in a row and was literally 1 mb in difference over the whole 10 tests so I've got a pretty accurate speed to enter.

This topic leads me to another question along the same lines.

With the Beta coming up, and what I suspect to be a much higher player base, should we run a speedtest.net for the TIME we are going to be playing and enter that number for best results?

Or just run it a couple of times, find a baseline, enter it and leave it?

About once a week I will run 3 or 4 tests at different times of day and average them, then input these for the week. TBH they never really change that much.

That may mean your particular area might not be over-saturated.  If I run speed tests during the day (off peak hours) versus right around the 1700-1800hrs (peak usage) I can see a drop in both upload and download speeds due to us having limited choices for truer "high speed" offerings in our area.

No matter what time of the day I can run a network test on xbox (not speedtest) and it will give me around 74mb Down with around 18 up everytime,my area has only been fibre enabled since May so Imy area may not yet be over saturated, obviously loads of people will have standard adsl broadbamd but fttc or fibre to the cabinet which I have may not be popular just yet,not sure if that's why my speeds are constantly good

When I leave mine at 100% with share excess mines almost 5000kbps how come urs reads so low?

Not sure, I cannot remember when I did the test, just done another and it is reading over 3000 now but that figure in the previous post is about what the game actually does use for online play. Although that is up for debate being as I know about as much as a waiter at Fawlty Towers. lol ;)
