Simon Thomas
Anyone know why Waveform shows my download speed at a fraction the speeds the R3 says im getting and what i pay for? I am really used to A+ ratings now this. This happened to me all of a sudden. Did a factory reset and still same issue. Please help, thank you! NetTech
Possible Reason for Suboptimal Test Results: Bandwidth Allocation: If you set the upload and download speed sliders too close to your actual internet speed, you're essentially allowing your router to use nearly all available bandwidth. When sliders are set too high, a waveform test might show spikes in latency or erratic ping times. This happens because the network struggles to prioritize packets or manage its buffer effectively. Regarding Your Speed Test Results: The results you're seeing do seem unusual. This might be because you have both sliders set to 100%. Have you tried using other speed test websites like Speedtest.net or M-Lab to verify these results? Also, make sure to click "Update Network Speed" on your router settings after running these tests. This will recalibrate your Congestion Control settings based on the new speed test data.

Just to be sure your waveform screenshot is done on a wireless device? If that's the case it's due to your wifi card limiting the bandwidth on your device during the test... unlike the test on the GUI which is direct ethernet WAN. Simon Thomas
Thanks all, I've played around extensively with the congestion control settings and that does nothing. I tried the Waveform test on both my computer (ethernet) and phone (wifi) and get bad results, horrendous actually. The only thing I've done recently is split the bands into 2.4gh and 5gh so that i can game on the 5ghz band and the family can use 2.4gh. Other than that I have no idea what happening. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 30 Administrators Share Posted January 30 What do you get on speedtest.net?
Simon Thomas
Tests done 30 seconds apart from each other approx. When I dont use the R3 at all and still use ethernet I get the speeds my ISP gives me so to me that means the R3 is doing something but I cant figure out what. Logs attached Here are my speeds without the R3. R3_2025-01-31T08_34_46.759Z_logs.txt
Fuzy
There is no logic in your results... except if you put your test device behind HVPN which could limit the DL speeds... Could you provide a video capture of your test like this please! Enregistrement 2025-01-31 140927.mp4
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 31 Administrators Share Posted January 31 What is the model of the modem/router the R3 is connected to and how have you set that to ensure all traffic flows to the R3? E.g. R3 in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode Are ALL devices connected to the R3?
Simon Thomas
The modem is from NBN (Australia's national broadband service), it's connected to the R3 via ethernet. All traffic except for my PC connects to the R3 via wifi. My PC (Simons Computer shown in the image) connects to the R3 via ethernet. I've never had to set up DMZ / bridge mode previously, so im currently not implementing this setting.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 1 Administrators Share Posted February 1 Do you know what the model the modem is so I can have a look into it? It should have a sticker on the underside if you're not sure

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 2 Administrators Share Posted February 2 Thank you, that's all fine. You said it happened all of a sudden, can you think of anything that changed settings wise or with the physical setup e.g. adding a new device etc prior to the issue happening? Simon Thomas
No not at all. No idea what happened on my end that points to the drop.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 2 Administrators Share Posted February 2 Put your PC in the DMZ on the R3 then run speedtest.net what do you get? Remove the PC from the DMZ immediately once you've completed it
Simon Thomas
Strange, still no improvement even with the PC in DMZ. Speedtest.net is higher than waveform.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 2 Administrators Share Posted February 2 Okay great, lets ignore waveform then as we can't rely on that currently to report accurately. There is likely some settings that are restricting the speeds. You mentioned you had the issue after a factory reset, is there anything you changed right away upon getting into the interface or did you test right away? Simon Thomas
The factory reset was after I found out my speeds weren't what I pay for. It did nothing. I didn't change anything right away, rather just waited until I had access to the main R3 dashboard / interface. Here's the result of an M-Lab speed test
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 3 Administrators Share Posted February 3 Are you using PPPoE/VLAN or IPv6?
Simon Thomas
I have both DHCP, and IPV6 selected. I dont have PPPoE selected.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 4 Administrators Share Posted February 4 Okay disable IPv6 in LAN/WAN, reboot the router from the interface, wait 4 minutes then try again please Danmc17

Eefo
Hey @Netduma Fraser Hope you're doing great. So i am posting in this post because i am having the same issue, hope that wont be an issue. as you can see from the screenshot, the results are BAD. i did not change anything. These are the results after updating the firmware, I DID get A+ on wifi before the firmware upgrade with same settings i have now, Changed nothing. Could you suggest me what settings to look for to diagnose this issue? Could that be a bad firmware install? Because after the install i wasn't able to login dumaos/ which was a cache issue, but i dont know much, so i am just assuming that could be the issue. Also before the upgrade i used to get about 400 Download speeds, as i have set congestion to 50% for download. R3 is directly connected to the cable modem. What are your thoughts on it? You have speed test bypass disabled there, if you enable that do your speeds go back to normal? Also if you could provide a screenshot of the LAN settings page please. So if you haven't already I would definitely suggest doing a factory reset first, it's a big update/change from the previous public version. If you seem to have no lingering issues like the login you had previously then the upgrade should be fine, if not, either downgrade then re-upgrade through the interface or delete the download file from your PC, redownload it then upgrade again. Assuming you've already factory reset or repeated the process and the issue still occurs and it's not speed test bypass how have you setup SmartBOOST to prioritize?
