p1xo
Hi Here is a few issues I have with R3, main problem being terribly disarranged interface not even trying to use a whole window and unnecessarily hiding settings within new tabs. Dashboard * wish it was customizable * activities are incorrect Geo Filter * impossible to turn off * lack of games, even though some of the are in a ping heatmap * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus Ping Heatmap * should really be part of geofilter Smartboost * impossible to turn off * activities are confused and off reality * wish i can choose by devices as default * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus Network Activity * history randomly resets, so there is none * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus Device Manager * even though the graph is nice a list option would be nicer * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus Adblocker * the timeline is buggy, 16k ads blocked and when i switch to 1 day view it all lags and freezes, simple table would be better * impossible to add custom lists, always crashes or gives "One of the Domains you have provided is not valid." when trying to add manually * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus Speed Test * rarely works * does not hold history * could have been a page on its own instead of window where I once again have to click deeper and scroll to get settings in a small window * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus Ping Optimizer * does not hold history * could have been a page on its own instead of window where I once again have to click deeper and scroll to get settings in a small window * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus Settings * could have been a page on its own instead of window where I once again have to click deeper and scroll to get settings in a small window * wish all settings would be listed on a side, not hidden in submenus * WIFI - MAC authentication? - WPS? - WMM? - RTS/CTS Threshold? - Fragmentation Threshold? - Output Power ? - Beacon Interval? - DTIM Interval? - Preamble? - Protected Management Frames? - Scanning WIFI Channels? - WLAN Scheduler? * Guest WIFI - Low priority option? - Speed limit option? * RGB Controls - Dynamic Game Lightning not working - Options window looks horrible - turn off status LEDs? * Appearance - useless tab * Internet Rules - again have to click deeper and deeper to even find out what I am setting up - could have been a part of a different tab * Hybrid VPN - not even working * LAN - again have to click to see all settings - DNS settings? - IPv6? * WAN - again no need for 2 pages of settings when it all could have been on one * DHCP - static DHCP? - automatic fixed address? - Log? - ARP table? - Traffic status? - Routing table? - User accounts tab? - Remote management? - IP passthrough? - Settings backup? - Diagnostic? - Self test? - Firmware tab? - NAT settings? - Firewall settings? - DMZ settings? - USB Settings? - Auto reboot? - ACL? - DOS? - MAC Filter? - Parental controls? It is all just my opinion, feel free to share more ideas. carmine19, GinjaBrad and Disrek 2
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted December 21, 2023 Thank you for the feedback, I will pass on your points. Just because it doesn't have all the features you've mentioned doesn't mean they're missing. At its heart it is a gaming router and so it is primarily going to be very easy to use, I don't think for example implementing the ARP table is a valuable use of resources as maybe a handful of people may use it. To comment on some of your points: Geo-Filter can be disabled, click the device when added, you can disable filtering or delete the device. The Geo-Filter only applies to devices added to it that are enabled. Ping Heatmap was an additional feature we added, way after the Geo-Filter to help inform your Geo-Filter settings. It is a significant undertaking to merge the features though something we're thinking about. You can disable SmartBOOST in the and clicking settings. What do you mean activities are confused and off reality? You do essentially have a list option on the right on the Device Manager Adblocker you're likely including a list that is too big, limit it to 20MB or lower and should work DNS, IPv6, Static/reserved addresses, logs, firmware, DMZ, Parental Controls (Internet Rules) are all available in Settings, check the advanced sections on settings. satinghostrider, titofuenla and PharmDawgg

It really is hard to find some settings, its all hidden in other menus, disable SmartBoost takes 4 clicks only if you know where to look. Activities... there is registered gaming activity when no one is gaming, work activity literally never comes on and video sometimes does, sometimes doesnt... Maybe add an option to turn it off so it does not take resources when it really is useless if it cannot work properly, just like network activity tab that does not show any history at all. Adblocker I tried 5MB as well, I did not manage to add it successfully. Maybe if it tells me which domain it could not add and then just ignore them but add the rest. My main points are * Menus - its all confusing and unclear. Like why not use the whole window? you are making me scroll in a tiny one instead and then click for more when it all could have been on one big window * AdBlocker - already mentioned issues with adding domains, the whole tab freezes if i leave it open for more than a minute * Firewall - no settings at all? this is a big one * DHCP - automatically assign a device with a fixed address is a big help, dont think it would be hard to add that * option to turn off status LEDs and change WIFI output power... never had a router that couldnt do that. also please add option for scheduled reboot, please! but once again, just my opinion, peace ✌️

Hi Fraser, Just curious as I just got my Netduma R3! Thing is a beauty. I play alot with friends from Australia and HK and mostly use Exitlag VPN for example as my ISP routing is very inconsistent from game to game. Sometimes I can get 93ms to Australia sometimes it goes up to 236ms. With VPN, it works properly. What is the best config in that case to run on the R3? Disable Geofilter? Do not add my PC to Geofiltering? Thanks in advance!

What was the Adblocker list you tried to add? Fair point on the smaller window for Settings, I'll add a request to expand that. We've never had any Firewall settings on our routers, as I mentioned it's primarily a gaming router, if we were making a more complex router things like this would be included. Good request for DHCP will add that to the list. Both the LEDs and WiFi power has been requested, as well as scheduled reboot so we may see that in future. 7 hours ago, satinghostrider said: Hi Fraser, Just curious as I just got my Netduma R3! If so then it would be best to keep the Geo enabled so you can try to force it every time. p1xo

I disagree, in the previous version of the software all these features were present, so now we are missing it. If it is a gaming router does not mean it is a toy, we should have, like most of the routers nowdays, simple settings and advanced and expert settings, leave the users the choice which settings to use based on their need and skill. I used the XR500, with many many settings and customization and now I lost most of them, only geo filter works (which wasn't with XR500 anymore), not even possible to set up a normal VPN to access my network from outside. Another feature I'm missing is the port forwarding, which now only accepts one ip, I have 2 gaming computers with different ip, I can set port forwarding on the same ports only on 1 of them at a time :(
Fuzy
A little patience, everything comes in time to those who wait! Think about the fact that it is constant development and that anything is possible! YT_LowPingKing and Gabriele 1
YT_LowPingKing
The teams are listening and taking constructive criticism. Honestly I like the simplicity of the R3. The average consumer has no idea how to dig into router settings. We were all new to routers and their settings at one point. From my years of experience of running a YouTube channel most people just want simplicity. However for those of us who have become more advanced with our skills over the years understandably we would appreciate more stuff to tinker with. It's a balance. Cater to the more casual person who just wants to set their router up and leave it alone. Or, put every crazy advanced feature in for the more advanced users. Personally I think the mix should be somewhere in the middle. It makes sense with these early versions to keep things very simple and add the more complex stuff later. DumaOS 4 seems much more capable/flexible than any other DumaOS version. We're all early adopters but I expect a year from now to see a lot more advanced stuff to play with. Time will tell. However, in terms of our own software where we created the Settings ourselves it doesn't miss anything that the R2 had for example. I don't think you could apply 1 port rule to multiple devices at the same time on the XR500 either

You can reserve bandwidth for devices by clicking the icon top right of the SmartBOOST page > Manage Profiles > Click the profile > Click the icon top right and add a reservation but there aren't specific limits. SmartBOOST automatically prioritizes and allocates bandwidth based on your network usage/what is needed. If there is a device you don't want to use much then do SmartBOOST by devices instead of activities and make sure it isn't added but add everything else.
