Windows 7 networking issues

Hi Yall, I ve noticed that for the last 2 days my windows 7 PC will only connect to the web via WIFI, When I open up the networking centre my Wifi is connected to Home Network but my wired connection is set to public and will not give me access to the web wired. I have tried everything to change the wired settings to home with no luck, including deleting all networks.

When I click on the icon (public network) it doesnt even give me the option to change it to Home network but it gives me all the possibilites on wifi.

Any ideas on how to fix this as obviously when uploading files to picture libraries etc it will be much faster wired.

Nope, I am afraid neither of those processes work. I can get wireless to work fine but my lan just says it is an unidentified network and will not allow internet access even when I have made it my home network.

I have changed nothing on my hardware for this to have occurred. I dont think it can be the powerline plugs as my ps4 still works fine.

Have you tried a different Ethernet cable?

Could also be a DHCP issue turn off all devices and reboot the router that is affecting this.

Turn on the machine that is giving you the trouble once the router is up.

If this works turn on the rest of the devices.

Ok Ill give that a go mate. It is not the cable as when I unplug it from the switch it reports that it is not connected then when I plug it back in it recognises it but will only see it as an unrecognised network, I only use the R1 stright into my BT open reach modem.

I did a bit of reading about this earlier and in with the earlier fixes i posted , some people were having this issue because DHCP was not handing out the correct ip addresses.

I have tried making a whole new network but my pc cannot even see the R1 to connect to it other than on wifi.

Can you go on to the adapter settings for IPv4 on the wired connection to point to the R1 address in the gateway part and see if that works please

Thats right click on the network icon by the time, click open network and sharing center click change adaptor settings

Right click on the adaptor icon click properties , double click ipv4.

Ok and where do I find those Fraser? If I disconnect from wifi and try to connect to R1 UI wired uisng web browser I cannot connect to it.

Nope that doesn't work either. Its as if the pc sees the network but says you are not going to play with it. It refuses to recognize the Netduma R1 on a wired connection. Instead it says that I can connect to it but it is unidentified and will not allow web access.

Playstation wont connect now either so just trying to reset all power plugs. I do recall actually last night after finishing gaming I got booted out of server but thought nothing of it.

Very strange indeed, definitely power cycle bt and R1. Disconnect all devices, R1 off, bt off, wait 30 seconds, bt on, plug in duma via ethernet, wait 30secs-1min then turn R1 on and connect your devices to R1 again.

Done all that and rebuilt power line network, now I have r1 wifi connection, wired unrecognised network both saying I have Internet access but neither actually allowing me access.

On the plus side ps4 working fine

Try a system restore on the machine you are having this trouble with.

Ok I think I got it, I plugged laptop direct into R1 to eliminate any problems with that and it was fine and recognised it via ethernet no problem.

Re synched powerline plugs but still no dice.

So I disabled the Lan adapter and the wifi adapter on my pc and switched em back on again. It recognised and allowed me to set My PC as home network and home group.

All sorted for now but f##k me what a pain in the ass that was.

Thank you very much for all your help guys.
