Ok, I did that and now I cannot get into any matches, not even from the server browser which is showing a slightly high ping. Each time I try to join, the game will start the countdown timer and go through the cutscene but then I am kicked back to the main menu.

The servers you're seeing in the server browser aren't located in your radius, so they're getting blocked. What are you now seeing on the Geo-filter map when you search for a game regularly?
