NetDuma R2 Router - Internet Drops

Hi,

Currently have a NetDuma R2 powered directly into the wall and connected to my modem via cat6 cable.  I'm currently on firmware R2 3.0.205

About twice a week internet will completely drop (both WiFi and Hard Wired) and have to power cycle the R2 for internet to come back on.  Today it happened again but this time the router locked up and couldn't even access the GUI to reboot it and had to remove the power cable to power cycle it.

I have my old router I have plugged in and working fine so, definitely something with the R2.  Any help would be appreciated in getting this resolved and its getting frustrating now.

Thanks..

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear this, were you usually able to access the interface when the connection drops or have you never been able to?

What's the make and model of your modem?

Could you please try going to Network Settings -> LAN -> DHCP and set the Lease time to 168 hours, then reboot the R2 from the interface and see if the disconnections continue?

I usually can access teh inferface when the connection drops but this last time it was inaccessible.  My modem is a Hitron CDA3-35

I will try changing the DHCP lease time to see if that helps at all.

Thanks for the help and i'll report back with an update.

Update..

I just lost internet connection again (LAN and WiFi) today even after making the changes to the DHCP lease time last Thursday.  I could not access the router GUI, just page can not be displayed.  So, had to pull the power cord and came back up.

Let me know what else you require to get this resolved.

Thanks.

The Hitron is just a modem and not a router.  Instead of just playing the guessing game maybe i should bundle up some logs for review?

I see, no worries. You could gather some logs though they're not going to tell us very much as you won't be able to capture these when the connection drops and they'll be cleared upon reboot.

One thing you could do that may give us a hint would be to go to the three-dot menu in the top right of the interface -> Advanced -> Rapp performance -> Click the advanced tab and hover your cursor slightly higher than the "Rapp" column. You should then see a "Show kernel values" checkbox appear, please check this and then click the Memory (P) column to sort by Memory usage and send a screenshot over of the table.

Thanks for this, I've requested a dev take a look at this and let me know if there's anything untoward, although I don't personally see anything wrong there.

In the meantime, do you still have the router you used prior to the R2? One thing you could try would be to connect the old router to one of the R2s LAN ports and use this for Wi-Fi, then disable Wi-Fi on the R2 and see if the disconnections continue. This will help us understand what exactly is causing the issue - which I initially suspect to be DHCP/Wi-Fi on the R2.

I'd rather not use my old router as its really old and not getting anymore security updates, hense the reason i upgraded to the R2.  Bottom line, this seems to be a software issue over a hardware issue then?  You suspect it to be related to DHCP/WiFi so, this would have to be fixed in a firmware update for the R2?

I see a lot of posts about this issues so, doesn't seem like its just isolated to me.

Yeah we think it's a software issue basically, we're planning on resolving it with a firmware update once we've been able to identify the root cause.

One thing you have reminded me of though: We had one user theorise that the R2 was actually over-heating - could you please feel the bottom of the R2 when it next disconnects and see if it feels abnormally hot to you?

Ok, my internet went down again today.  I checked the heat as you recommend on the R2 and didn't feel any hotter than usual.  Really doesn't get very hot at all.  Heat remained the same as when its working compared to when it crashes.

And i checked to see if i could access the GUI so, i could pull some logs but again wasn't able to access it.  Could not even ping the IP Address.

Looking forward to a fix...

We've got a potential fix in house that is looking promising, a new firmware shouldn't be too far away. You could try putting the old router in between the modem and the R2, then giving the R2 a static IP on the old router and putting that IP in the DMZ of the old router - that may give you some more stability in terms of the disconnections.

Also having a very similar issue, I have tried moving the router as for me it is possible it is overheating, but looking for when the update might be released?

Welcome to the forum!

Have you seen the issue since providing more ventilation to the R2?

We're currently testing some potential fixes and it's looking good but that does also mean there's no real ETA for it at the moment, it depends how it gets on through testing.

Has there been any updates regarding this issue?  I'm still having to power cycle the R2 5-6 times a day.  I have tried factory resetting, moving it to a more ventilated area with no resolution or improvement.  Its getting very frustrating as i work from home and constantly deadlocks.

Let me know if there has been any progress to this.  Maybe its worth getting a replacement at this point as i've had this issue since i bought it and not everyone is having this issue.

Thanks,

Blair
