AmericanBlood
Any advanced settings I should apply to improve my wifi signal. The wifi dropping even in the same room as the router. I have split bands so I could connect bedrooms to 2.4 GHz for better range and no difference. It is still off and on every 5-10 minutes buffering if not more. Newfie
Hi, did you perform a factory reset after installing the latest firmware?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted November 28, 2020 Administrators Share Posted November 28, 2020 WiFi is still something we're heavily working on. As above make sure you have done a reset after the upgrade. Also use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channels and change to those, also experiment with the widths. tk8990
I have the same issue. Once or twice a day my internet will drop for no reason at all until I unplug it and plug it back in. It happens on WiFi and hardwired. I have updated my router to the latest firmware but it still didn’t help.

If not I would recommend doing that as it's a big jump in firmware and may help with issues like this.

I did the factory reset after the update and it seemed to help for a couple days but it did it again last night.

What is your exact physical setup? Is the R2 connected directly to a pure modem or modem/router?

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 4, 2020 Administrators Share Posted December 4, 2020 Okay take it out of bridge mode, give the R2 a Static IP on it and put it in the DMZ. If it's an issue with the WAN DHCP lease being renewed then that should resolve it.
tk8990
Cox doesn’t do static IPs for residential. I still have it in bridge mode and it still loses connection randomly
tk8990
Also, I just tried to play rocket league and couldn’t connect. Do I have to change my settings every time I want to play a different multiplayer game?
Deprave
I have Cox as well and renting their modem fucking sucks! You’re better off buying you’re own Cable Modem. SURFboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 is the modem I have and I don’t have any issues at all! You’re spending $10 a month renting that garbage modem. I’ve been there so I know the frustration. That modem/router gave me nothing but problems!!!!

They may not offer the ability to have a static public IP but the modem as it is in bridge mode can be taken out of that mode and you can apply a local static IP to the R2, then put that in the DMZ and see if it prevents the disconnects. It depends on the games you play but for RL i think you can pick the servers on the game so you don't need the Geo.
