Rubber Banding - What is causing it?

Hi,

Any ideas what causes this? There isn't anything else going on my network at the time.

Ive got an RX500, have Anti-Bufferbloat set to always and 55% for both Download and Upload.

I have messed about with having it as when high traffic and the percentage without much joy.

I'm suppose to get 40Mbps Down and 10 Up but have set to 30/7 just to be safe as haven't really been getting that since lockdown.

I also have traffic prioritization for my PS4 and ive been back and forth with my ISP without coming away with anything to pin point the problem.

I'm connected via ethernet also.

I'm not really sure what I can do to improve it and its very frustrating! This can happen around 3/4 times a match.

If you guys need more info do let me know.

Clip attached to know what im on about incase its not the correct term.

Cheers

Hi Fraser,

Think i'm experiencing another issue randomly. Whenever I tried to access the router everything is spinning.

I get This R-App is not loaded yet to which I press okay however it continues to spin as if its loading.

I have powered the router a couple of times without any joy.

It seems I get click on system info and setting but the rest are spinning.

FYI im on firmware v2.3.2.56

This is the first time ive seen it do this. Vd2.3.2. 56

That's packetloss what you have. Either something is wrong with your line or it occurs at your exchange point or there are problems with the carriers which bring your packets to the COD server. Have you tried it with a normal router?

It was happening with my previous router too which is why I upgraded.

So we're thinking this could be my ISP? Not sure how I word it as ive been going round in circles.

Download Ping Plotter and run some tests to the COD servers.

I also suffered data packet loss, the problem is in certain Cod servers, try the following to see if it improves your experience, in my case it worked and I very rarely get servers with problems.

In Geofilter leave the filtering mode activated, but deactivate the strict mode, then start the game and in the geofilter you have to see that only the dedicated servers are loaded and the peers are blocked, try to see if there is luck for you.

Great i'll give that a go this evening

If you had it with the previous router then it could be an ISP issue. Use Google or a local news site with PingPlotter and see if you can see the issue there. Then do direct to ISP modem/router to see if it happens.

Unfortunately this didn't work.

I have used PingPlotter with bbc.co.uk and still getting the spikes and laggy/rubber banding.

Not sure what you mean by then do direct to ISP router?

Whenever ive done speed tests for my ISP im getting like 35ms roughly so its hard to move further with this.

Any ideas what it could be and how I word that to them?

Connect directly to the modem/router your XR is connected to with an ethernet cable to your PC and run the same PingPlotter test, do you get the same spikes? Also I assume this is with minimal traffic on the network?

Okay ive plugged directly to network and theres nothing going on.

As you can see there are spikes.

Currently I have Always, and 55% Down/Up for my QoS settings.

I also have Open NAT on WAN settings as read a lot about needing this for Modern Warfare.

As said previously whenever I do a speed test for my ISP I tend to get a low ping.

My download/Upload can fluctuate but otherwise as expected.

Any ideas?

It plugs into a black box which then plugs into a wireless antenna/reciever on the side of house.

Nothing happens if I plug directly into it.

The latest from ISP is they are checking the access point.

Ah you have WISP, that would make sense then regarding the spikes. Let us know what the ISP says.

Hi Fraser,

So it looks like my internet speeds have been very slow, I'm ment to get 40Mbps down and 10Mbps up but i'm only getting 15Mbps down and the upload can be extremely low and noticed it below 1Mbps sometimes which could be well be related to above issues.

My ISP are saying they are getting full speeds to the antenna which in this case is 100Mbps.

Is there anything in the RX500 which would limit the outputting speeds? I've turned off my VPN before doing ethernet cable tests from the router.

I'm going round and round in circles unfortunately. I would look at changing ISP but due to our location the alternative is Sky with 2Mbps download!!! never mind upload.

Hopefully you have some things I could check/try out.

Cheers, Rich

That's lower than you were getting before, if you go to Settings and go through the Setup Wizard - just to the point where it tests your speeds, what results do you get?

I don't know if there was or not as they stopped engaging with support.

Hi Fraser,

I have done the setup wizard as suggested and its saying 30 Down and 19 Up! but looks like it says than an estimate?

When I use the suggested speed test (http://speedtest.vispa.net/) i'm getting around 20 Down and 7 Up which is certainly better than before.

My QoS is still on and ive changed it to 70% Down and Up with Always set. I believe this marries up with the speeds im getting and anti buffer bloat.

I am unfortunately only getting half of what download im paying for - guess that could be expected.

I have tried playing the game with the above settings but its looking more healthy.

My main concern with all this is my ability to play Call of Duty online without all the issues and be able to stream via my macbook at the same time.

I've put some images of the QoS page....

Is there anything more I could do to optimise it? Should I change the bandwidth readings in QoS panel to be different to 40 Down and 10 Up??

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

What do you get via speedtest.net? What do you get if you toggle that Disable QoS checkbox? I'd recommend you don't prioritize the console actually as that will override the stream which needs a steady flow of packets to appear smooth, see how that works.
