It just depends on the connection really, I've seen people get higher than that in the past

Guess I'll find out would the r1 handle about 15 to 20 devices?

Hopefully because I use my consoles my pc my phone my tablet and family uses theirs too hopefully the r1 can handle that till xr500 gets the ping assist auto setup feature

I really cant see the point of using a less powerful device with less ram and a slower CPU as your main router just use the XR500 its better than the R2 hardware wise.

It is true but in this case it is the R1. Capped at "300/300Mbps max" with QOS.

The XR500 would indeed be better upstream. But some prefer to use the R1 with the original FW and put their XR in AP downstream ... (Sad end for this expensive router at the time) But it works very well in AP!

After which year of use it is a good compromise...
