Hybrid VPN UNO PC Issue

Recommended Posts

I am having issues connecting to games on UNO on PC. I know that issue is with Hybrid VPN due to the fact that I have no issues if I turn it off. Uplay requires the following ports so I have setup the VPN to not apply to those ports: TCP: 80, 443, 13000, 13005, 13200, 14000, 14001, 14008. Doing this has worked perfectly on every other game I play but not with UNO.

The setup next to my device in Hybrid VPN looks like this:

TCPUDP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (80:80)
TCPUDP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (443:443)
TCP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (13000:13000)
TCP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (13005:13005)
TCP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (13200:13200)
TCP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (14000:14001)
TCP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (14008:14008)

As of right now the only solution I can see is to turn the VPN off when I want to play UNO which I would obviously prefer not to do. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I'm unsure how putting ports 80 and 443 back under the VPN could resolve the issue considering it all works fine when I turn the VPN off. Makes more sense that adding more ports under "Do NOT VPN these services." would resolve the issue. But I will try after work today.
I am using ExpressVPN.

I do not know if they block any ports.
No devices are currently using the Geo-Filter. That was the first thing I checked as I found out it was the reason I was getting a Moderate NAT in CoD: MW. I now add devices to Geo-Filter only after I have booted up the game I want to play.

It's more because those ports are required for all devices to work correctly online. Do you have another VPN provider you could try with or contact the provider to see if they block any specific ports? It seems more like the provider if the same process you use works for the other games but not this one.

Which is why I thought having them under "Do NOT VPN these services." would be the correct thing to do.

If I remove ports 80 and 443 from "Do NOT VPN these services." I will no longer be able to watch Foxtel GO (Australia Pay TV) on that device. But I will try it and see after work like I said.

Is my way of setting up the Hybrid VPN ok (Checking what ports games need and adding them under "Do NOT VPN these services.")? Weird that it does not work with UNO but I will do some research and see if ExpressVPN blocks any ports. If they do then do I need to manually port forward those ports or can I simply add them to "Do NOT VPN these services."?

Yes you're right, disregard that sorry, I confused myself! Yes that is fine, I've just found some extra ports that you don't have but should be required for UNO, try these the same way you've done the others and see if it works.

TCP: 1935,3478-3480

UDP: 3074,3478-3479,3658,4646

Ok awesome. I thought I had it setup right in regards to ports 80 and 443 haha. So should I set ports 80 and 443 under "Do NOT VPN these services." on every device? I've only been doing it if I run into issues.
Where did you find the information about those ports please? Could be handy in the future. I do have other ports set to not use the VPN, I only copied the ones relating to UNO in my original post. I will add the ports you suggested and also paste every rule I have in regards to ports not using the VPN. I will be home from work in 6 hours. Not sure what time that is in your timezone but I'll respond here with the results ASAP.
Thank you.

UDP - Source Port (1:65535) - Destination Port (4646:4646)

I can join and host the odd game but I'm still having the issue more or less.

ExpressVPN got back to me and said "ExpressVPN doesn't block any ports. With your problem, it is possible that the game itself only allows certain IPs to pass through their servers or they do block VPN IPs for security reasons."

On a side note, when I do an IP check on ExpressVPN's website it shows my IP when on my PC, but when I do the same on my phone which has every single port running through the VPN it says I'm protected. Might just go back to having ExpressVPN installed locally on my PC and disconnect from it when gaming. It will fix both the issue with UNO and my IP not being protected. Let me know what you think.

I think you can continue adding 80/443 if you run into issues on said devices, no need to add it for every one if it isn't causing a problem. I found them here: https://portforward.com/uno/ I gave you the PS4 ports, even though it is on PC the ports may not be the only ones it uses so it may be worth adding the ports from the other platforms that you're missing and see if that helps. That'll be because 80/443 are not going through the VPN. That is certainly a viable option if it works, I can't see any specific issues here that would cause it to not work. You could try a blanket rule 1-65535 TCP/UDP src & dst to see if it works that way.

So I completely reset Hybrid VPN and set it up from scratch. Added my PC to the VPN and had no ports under "Do NOT VPN these services." and my IP address was still being detected. I have decided to turn Hybrid VPN off and use the ExppressVPN app installed locally on my devices instead. I will try it again after the next major update. Perhaps having ExpressVPN as an option on the basic setup will resolve the issue.

Thanks for your time.

I know it’s been a while, but did you ever find a solution to your VPN issue with UNO? I’ve run into similar problems with certain games and VPNs, and it’s always a bit of a headache trying to figure out the right ports and settings. TBH, sometimes, when I need a break from troubleshooting, I just play a game of solitaire. It’s a nice way to unwind and clear my head before diving back into the tech stuff. Anyway, if you managed to get it sorted, I’d love to hear what worked for you.

Did you set up the VPN with port rules?
