MannyQ
Hi can any one advise please. Before purchasing I want to know what the best set up and or even if the R1 is the best option. I have 150meg on virgin media with the super hub 2c. currently playing COD AW on xbox one . My home is fully networked with cat 6 all over the house that connects to a central negear 1 gigabit switch via patch panels with different devices > 10 . The virgin media router plugs into the switch. Now the question is do i set the virgin media router to modem mode and plug the giga bit switch into the R1 or do i leave the virgin router as is plug the netduma into the virgin router and unplug the xbox patch lead from the switch into the netduma directly? Thanks
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 18, 2015 Administrators Share Posted June 18, 2015 Hey Manny, first of all welcome to the forum and thanks for considering purchasing! I would recommend going Virgin router (modem mode) > R1 > Switch, you could then plug the Xbox into the R1 if you wanted to. As the R1 is behind the Virgin (modem mode) and all devices going through the R1 you can make use of all the features
Trolling_Farm
I have a similar setup with the use a of a switch the only difference is my firewall. Also my modem uses the term "Bridge Mode" instead of "Modem Mode" but they are they same thing. My setup is Comcast ISP Modem - Pfsense"Custom Firewall" - Switch and from the switch it feeds other devices like my AP and my Netduma router. The reason why I put the Netduma after my switch is because I custom built my own firewall with the OS pfsense. My network is a little different then most, in general everyone should go "ISP Modem - Netduma……." So as a random person who also uses the netduma "I am very happy with the geo-filter, it works" your setup would work. I agree with Fraser, put the Virgin Media Router into "Modem Mode" then Netduma and then connect the switch to the Netduma R1. If you have any problems use the forums and the chat on this site someone would help you with a quick response. http://forum.netduma.com/topic/2181-unique-setup-pfsense/ That link is when I was having trouble setting my my network with the duma.
