Why dont i get my speeds

Recommended Posts

Couple months ago i started to not get my speeds i was paying for. Was getting aroun 50 sometimes 20 dl when i pay for 240 and was really crappy gameplay. Had my isp out and they couldnt do anything. Switched back to my asus and got my speeds. Was also having problems with not connecting with a friend 23 miles away and not showing up on my geo filter to make him 100% on the slider bar

Hi, welcome to the forum! No problem, let's get right to what you could try. For your speeds I'd recommend first taking a look at these settings and applying them:

- Reactive Algorithm
- 100% anti-flood
- Share excess enabled
- Reset device prioritisation & apply
- Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc
- Disable deep packet in misc
- Enable turbo mode
- Ensure the ethernet cables you're using connecting the R1 to hub & R1 to PC are Cat5e+/can handle your speeds.
- Do a wired speed test from a PC

For your friend - if you invite him to a private lobby so it's just you and him online, can you see any icons appear on the map? Does he have an open NAT?

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Are you testing your speeds using a wired PC? Testing speeds using WiFi or from your console will not give you an accurate result.

If you are testing from a wired PC and not getting your speeds, re-enter your speeds in Device Manager and when it asks you if you want to auto setup click yes. Do you get your full speeds then?

If you want to test your line for problems I recommend running PingPlotter. There is a guide on PingPlotter here: http://forum.netduma.com/topic/23881-ping-plotter-quick-guide/post your results here if you need help with them.

On a side note, speeds won’t make any difference to gameplay, games require very little bandwidth, usually < 0.5Mbps.

Iv done everything both of you have stated above and still get the same results

Xbox and pc have been wired since day 1 never ran them either of them on wifi

Iv done the fine tuning step step countless times and still get the same results. Iv tried different speed tests and ping plotter (no packet loss) and still get it i havent used it in a couple months. I will plug it up later today when im home and see if i still get thr same thing

Hooked up the duma and put it on the settings nerduma jack said and i got 114.15dl and 12.06ul on speedtest.net and 127.45dl and 15.73ul

Any other ideas?

Your anti flood sliders are definitely at 100% when your testing? What browser are you using to access the Netduma interface? Have you tried a different Ethernet cable, just to rule that out?

Let's get all the facts out there:

- Are you certain you get your full speeds wired directly to the modem?

- What model of modem do you use?

- Is your setup Modem > Netduma > All devices (including wired PC for speed-testing)?

- Are there any other routers / switches in your setup?

- Are your Ethernet cables old, and what type of cable are they?

- Which firmware version are you on?

- If you factory reset from Settings > Miscellaneous (to clear your settings) and then set your bandwidth and allow the Netduma to auto-setup, do you receive your speeds when wired to a PC using Speedtest.net?

-Yes i get my speeds wired directly to my modem

-netgear docsis 3.1

-only thing that is wired is my xbox and pc

-no other routers or switches. Only the netduma r1 and netgear modem

-i went and bought new ones last night and they are cat5

- last letter is a h in the firmware. Checked that last night also and it says no need to update firmware if you are a g or h

-no i do not i get between 40-90 dl

CAT 5 cables are only meant to reach a maximum of 100mbps. If you're sure the Ethernet between the Modem and your Netduma is a CAT 5 then that's the problem right there.

We recommend CAT 5e at the very least, but try getting a CAT 6 or 7. This is very likely to be the source of your issue.

This can still be a modem related issue. Your settings seem fine as do your cables - there are some modems that don't respond correctly when a secondary router is added to the network which can decrease your speeds through the router. Which precise model of modem is this? We'll cross-check it.

If you happen to have a spare modem anywhere I'd recommend hooking that up to see if it's the issue. The main reason for this is to prevent what could happen in this case - we could put this down to a malfunctioning Netduma, replace it only to find you still can't reach your speeds due to the modem!

Could you also let us know when you bought your Netduma? Thanks!

The modem im currently using is the netgear cm1000. And i do habe another modem but it has the puma 6 chip and is my isp modem router combo. Which i do get my speeds with that. My isp tested that when i started having problems because i thought it was on there end. And i bought my netduma july 28th 2017

Do you reckon you could spin up that other modem you have and test your speeds through the Netduma? I'm aware it'll have various issues related to the Puma 6 chip, but if you get your full speeds with that then it could very well prove that your CM1000 is the root cause of the issue.

Please set up your network like this: Puma 6 modem/router > Netduma > Wired PC and let us know if you get your speeds with all the settings above applied. Thanks!

Hello Folks,

Mind if I jump on this thread? I just wanted to say that I have the same issue. It has been happening for a long time now. I also have read a lot on these forums that others have the same issue without a fix; i feel your pain. But to be fair, others have working speeds and do not have this issue.

I have tested multiple routers and modems. For some reason the netduma is the only one that cuts my download speed in half; upload is not a issue. Before you ask - yes I have followed all the recommendations listed on your FAQs and Forums. Also all cabling is cat 6.

Today I removed the device and will run without it until I get the new dumaOS on the R1. Maybe a bunch of us got some bad routers but I am not sure. I was also going to bite the bullet on the dumaOS with the netgear. But I am seeing some threads about the same issue on those devices so going to hold off for now.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Post a support topic an we’ll be happy to assist you with your issue. It’s difficult to support multiple people on one thread.

I’ve not seen any posts about people not getting their speeds on the XR500 myself. The XR500 can handle Gigabit so anyone not getting their speeds definitely has a settings issue.
