XR500 Couple of Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm absolutely loving Duma OS.  That said I did / do have a few issues.

-I had a really hard time setting up, it took about 20 minutes.  It got stuck trying to detect my internet type (PPPoe), and then it got stuck once I entered in my isp username and password.  I think you may have already addressed this with the current firmware but just wanted to let you know.

-In the geofilter you can see all of the ip addresses you connect to, is that an issue?  I thought on the r1 the ip's were masked intentionally because of potential abuse.

-When I pin the ping from the geofilter to my dashboard, it doesn't seem to ever update the host information.  So even if the host changes from game to game, it doesn't update on the dashboard.  It does update on the geo-filter page though.

Few other things that I hope get added in the future and some of which I've seen mentioned on a few other threads...

- One click VPN and more VPN support

- Ping assist

- Hopefully once it's ready to be released anti jitter and anti spike!

- Share excess button added in case I'm not feeling very sharing

Can't think of anything else right now, but I'll add more if I think of them.

Favorite features so far...

- Everything is so clean and easy to use.  It's honestly amazing.

- Dashboard is awesome

- Love how everything auto apply's and remembers your settings

- Automatically prioritizing game traffic

- Network monitoring is exactly what I requeseted for the r1 a few years back!

Honestly I could go on and on!  Here's how I have my dashboard setup, simple but it's got what I need!

Hey wrath, glad to hear you're loving it!

Please first upgrade to this latest version: https://kb.netgear.com/000053269/XR500-Firmware-Version-2-1-0-4it is much more user friendly and does contain some bug fixes. Can you check if PPPoE is still an issue on that please?

In this latest version it has been changed to IDs.

Yes we're aware of that, it's because you're pinning that particular host essentially. We do want to include it in future but it isn't a bug.

Share excess button is there, you need to click the 3 line icon on the bandwidth allocation feature (theres one button for download and upload respectively)

Fantastic thanks a lot for the awesome feedback and really glad you're enjoying :)

I just updated, I can check to see if the pppoe is issue is still there but wouldn't I have to do a factory reset to replicate what someone would do with the router straight out of the box?

That's what I thought, not very useful to be pinned to the dashboard at the moment

The one sub-menu I didn't click on, lol thanks

You're welcome, thanks to you and the team for the great work!

Hi Jerrry,

Really glad your'e enjoying it. Looks like Fraser addressed most of your queries.

  • The PPPoE section is developed by NETGEAR so I'll let their dev team know about the issue you had. If you'd like to be part of the conversation please DM your email address on twitter and I'll cc you in the email.
  • In the new upgrade your IP is masked
  • As Fraser said the ping panel doesn't update on the dashboard due to the way it worked. We will invert the logic soon and push a firmware update
  • Share excess is available, and all the other features you suggested should be available in future firmware updates soon
  • Finally it's awesome - seems like you've tottaly figured it out all on your own. Really happy to see you've noticed all the extra work we did based on DumaArmys feedback to make a in my opinion a simpler more refined software

Hi Iain,

It's so cool to finally see DumaOS in action, it has lived up to my expectations thus far, and honestly exceeded them in terms of ease of use.  Certainly has came a long way since I first got the R1 in December 2014!

As far as the PPPoe I did a factory reset and everything went through ok the second time, not sure why.  But I'll DM you on twitter for my email in case you want to CC me.  It might have been an add block issue, this time around I disabled it.

I'm so glad to hear that Jerry. Yes we've come really far from Dec 2014.  It's been a roller-coaster  rider for sure :) I've dm'd you on twitter about the pppoe issue.

Hi, can somebody help with this. Got my netgear xr500 connected. Using a TP link in modem mode as the Plusnet one hasn't got the feature. Now it says 'connected but no Internet'. I've connected the laptop via an ethernet cable and in the Duma OS. Trying to run setup wizard. Asks for pppoe ISP login details but just says not recognised yet they are my login details. Please help somone.

I would highly recommend calling Netgears 24/7 English Support Line as they should very quickly be able to resolve the issue you're having. They are much more familiar with the Settings as they created it. Sign in here: http://support.netgear.com/ and you should get a number to call.

Just was thinking of something I think could be really helpful in the future.  It would be great if from the network monitor you could rename devices, sometimes I mis label a device and look through the network monitor to see what is currently most active so that I can rename it, but it would be great if I could do that straight from the network monitor tab rather than having to go back to device manager.

Thats a really good idea, I'm not sure if that will happen as having multiple places where you can rename devices could prove to cause a lot of problems but we will keep it in mind!

If that is a problem perhaps you could click on your device through the device manager tab and see the network activity for that device.  Not sure if that's difficult but it could be helpful for renaming/ properly naming devices.
