Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted November 9, 2017 Netduma Staff Share Posted November 9, 2017 WHen you are in a game on xbox and your watching the host ping when it spikes is that my ping doing it or is that a server issue ping ? if it is mine how can I fix it ? The best way to see if the ping spikes are caused by you is to run an Internet diagnostics test (or for more in depth results, a Pingplotter test). If the results come back saying you have bad ping spikes, that's down to your equipment rather than the game server. Ping spikes can be caused by faulty equipment, ISP issues, bad modems or other issues. Let us know the results and we'll see how bad it is. ColonicBoom
ok great jack thanks how long should I let ping plotter run and what do I need to ping? 10 mins will probably be enough to show if there's a problem but if you're in the trial period then go for 30-60mins while you still can. Ping something big that gives you a relatively low ping. I use Twitter because it gives me a low ping (8ms) so I can easily see how stable the line is. Netduma Staff Netduma Jack Posted November 10, 2017 Netduma Staff Share Posted November 10, 2017 ok great jack thanks how long should I let ping plotter run and what do I need to ping? ColonicBoom's suggestion above is great - I'd run it for no more than 2 hours pinging Twitter.com. If you struggle to upload a screenshot directly to the forum, I'd upload it to a site like imgur and drop us a link

ColonicBoom
From the look of those, It's pretty safe to assume that any spikes you're seeing are on the CoD server side (maybe P2P). Those lines are flat. I assume the last one has a higher ping because it's connected to a Twitter server on the other side of the country.
scbba
ok cool I have my net company coming out to test the lines today because that last test is running off the same server as the other 2 it just comes and goes which is weird I had to drop my internet from 60 to 2.5 to 19 ms ping. They just replaced my modem it was bad now I gotta get it set back up
